I always liked the short throw 4 speed T shifter in my 72 SS El Camino. So today I put a Hurst short throw T in my 99 SR5. Had to do a little cutting cause the shifter base is bigger. Had to cut steel divider plate for the boot and also the boot a little. All together now, just letting the RTV cure overnight so it wont leak and then I'll road test it.
You can get them for both the 4cyl and 6cyl 5 speeds, can get different shifter grips also like different balls and stuff.

I just installed a URD short throw shifter. I actually really like it. You end up reusing your old shifter. So it ends up beings little taller. But I like it.

Does the shifter sit any taller than the oe shifter . I definitely wish my stuck was a couple inches taller, and with a short throw it would be sweet.

Yup, you can get either stock height or there's an optional 3 inch higher one for body lifts. I gave its 1st run today, 150 miles, nice and tight short notchy throw, I like it.

I’m going to guess that it’s a no. But URD does make it taller and it’s cheaper.
The Core Hurst one has an optional 3 inch taller one, and its a whole already assembled assembly with shifter arm, different animal with easier quicker install, quality is good. $149 vs $239 still fairly cheap upgrade. I guess just a matter of taste. Personally I've always liked the Hurst shifters on my tire smokers.

Sweet! I plan on doing the URD ST shifter some day. I was also thinking about extending it a few inches too. I love the old 50's & 60's pick-up hot rods with the long floor mounded shifter.

Edit:
My friend does leather work & he's making me a custom leather cover for my OEM shifter ball. It's gonna be evil, something skull like with TRD incorporated into it or the Toyota devil logo.

Something like this would be cool.

With URD its a spacer with a extension. Utilizing the stock handle.

Sounds cool. I love unique custom stuff breaking away from the norm.

Here's the open view of the base on install, doesn't look like site pic cause they have so many diff ones.

Looks really cool, its nice that it comes with the chrome shifter rod, it is the only one that doesn't reuse the stock shifter rod.
Is the base made of steel?
Also it seems like the shifter is slightly moved to the passenger side of the car, when in H2 and Reverse does it interfere with the transfer case shifter at all?

Yes the base is steel. Its all good on distances and plenty of room between the shifter and transfer in all positions. The shifter has an angled bend, look at the 1st pic I posted with the console boot on, the one with the console boot off looks deceiving cause of the angle I took the pic.
