4Runner of the Month **NOMINATIONS**

I vote for Magert too! He's done some very cool stuff and has some awesome pics of his trips and trail rides.

Also, +1 for gaterose!
 
There are many badass builds on here of all gens. But the most impressive build by far that I've seen is ChildrenOfBodom's. That 4Runner has come a long, long way and it is very impressive, to me, the amount of time and effort he put into his rig, especially when he could have just gone the easy route and swapped for one with more options installed from the factory.

No offense to these guys and their trucks, not saying they don't deserve to win. T4ROTM died out because of the Gallery subforum is a ghost town (T4ROTM rules being that you must post in the Gallery subforum). There are simply way too many insane builds on here that are completely overlooked for T4ROTM because of this.

Lets be honest, this nominees list is lacking tons of well deserving names, and I don't see it getting much bigger anytime soon if it's hiding here.

On a side note: Back when T4ROTM was in full stride, I was convinced that it was easier to win with a stock 4th gen and a spacer lift than an actual build. There were lots of good T4ROTM choices, but so many bad ones in between. IMHO, it often wasn't 4Runner of the Month, it was "Which 4Runner is prettiest this month?"

I'm only writing this stuff because I hope to see names that fit the bill this time around... if we're going far enough to call it Toyota 4Runner of the Month. I won't be participating in the vote if you're planning to include a bunch of truly undeserving nominees, regardless of how "pretty" they are.

Since you offered yours, I'll throw my opinion in as well. This thread would show up if people used the Quick Links -> Today's Posts method of searching. However, it seems most people are only interested in looking in their particular generation's sub-forum. I'm not trying to re-write the board here, but if more people went outside their particular sub-forum, then they would see this thread in its current location.
* However, if a mod would like to move this thread to the General Discussions area, then that would be fine as well, or even make it a Sticky.

Then again, if people actually used the sub forum categorizations the way they are intended then we wouldn't have 5 "Merry Christmas" threads going at once. Its like people only want to wish others with the same generation so they post it in generation specific sub-forums instead of Off Topic area, where it belongs. Anyway /Rant on the use of sub forums.

As far as who is deserving of 4Runner of the month, I think that is completely relative and a total matter of opinion. You are more than entitled to vote for whomever you choose. the Josh does have an impressive build, but I don't think the extent of a person's build should be the only determining factor. I mean, where do you draw the line on modifications? What level do you have to be at before you're allowed to be part of the consideration?

Some would say that stock 4Runners shouldn't be in the running, but I think all 4Runners should be able to participate. That is, unless we can all agree on a list of criteria for what 4Runners should be allowed to compete, which I don't think is likely. In the end, I think overall votes should be what determines our winner. If you feel strongly that someone with a huge list of modifications and build thread deserves to win, then I encourage you to vote for that person, but insinuating that only those with that type of rig are allowed to be part of the competition is kind of elitist and not really keeping with the overall demeanor of this board - but again, this is just my opinion.

In my opinion, this is supposed to be a fun way to give someone props on their 4Runner. Not really a competition, but more of a way to recognize a job well done. I think most people would think that it is an honor just to be nominated, let alone winning. Either way, we don't mod our rigs to win a silly on-line vote, we do it to make our vehicle what we want. Anyway, posting to this thread and telling others about it will get it the publicity it needs to succeed, so spread the word
 
I'd like to see this come back.

I would also nominate C.O.B.'s truck for T4R of the month.

Thanks to Quicksilver for the mention as well, like Dusty Driftwood said, it's an honor just to be nominated.

I agree w/both COB and DD on their respective takes on the contest.

Basically, I think that if a build thread contributes knowledge and content that makes the forum a better place to spend your precious time, while at the same time documenting a tasteful build (whether simple, or extreme), then that build thread shoud qualify for T4ROTM.

It's not all about the most extreme builds, or the prettiest truck. I think it's about passion of the owner, purpose of the build, and contribution to the forum.

There are a ton of extreme builds that contribute no knowledge whatsoever. No how-to's, no info on the mods, nothing that will help/encourage others. Those builds are just bragging threads to me and don't qualify for T4ROTM any more than the guy who gets on, posts a build thread for his brand new 5th gen that he put some fresh wheels on, and then never posts again.

I spend 95% of my time in the 3rd gen forum, 4% in the classifieds, and 1% on the funny/strange/random thread.

That being said... I would nominate:

1. COB
2. Blacktpgsr
3. Brian2Sun (not sure if he's got it before)
4. Dirtco
5. Fightman80
6. Ripcord
7. J-Money (has contributed a lot of great 4-wheeling how to's outside his thread, but the thread showcases the truck)
8. Rickashay
9. Ameining

All of these guys have ingenious, purposeful builds that are full of creativity, inspiration, information, and ideas that I am sure have collectively helped 1000's of people along the way in modifying their 3rd gen 4runners.

I mean thats a 27yo rig that looks "newer" than some 4th gens, its so damn clean and straight, very impressive and it built too. It something much more special and rare than most others out there

OK, I just looked through the list of past winners. Officially put my vote in for Blcktpgsr with Dirtco being a close second.
 
I don't know if this fits the window of an "acceptable" nomination but either way I'd like to nominate alex56 and his bad*** 4runner!

He's got a real sexy 4runner with a mod list a mile long and it's not only tire and suspensions mods, hes put time into the engine, interior and exterior. This 4runner isn't just a "4th gen with a spacer lift" (as COB would put it), its a seriously bad*** 4runner. Also, as an added bonus, he's a nice guy who always replied to my PM's with the info and advice I needed which is more than I can say for some members.

This thread is supposed to narrow down all those choices to about 5 so we can set up a poll. Otherwise, we'd have a poll with about 1000 choices. The nice thing is, if this continues, we have a new winner each month.

Once we get 10 nominations ,somebody needs to start a poll in the Polls subforum and have it last 30 days and we'll declare the winner to be 4Runner of the Month for March 2012! After all ,us 4Runner owners probably know a bad ass 4Runner more then the admin anyways!.........................jk

so you wanna run the rubicon?!? lets do it!! it a 5th gen comes ill go again for sure, even though i said to my wife I'm retired from the rubi he he he... i would love to see how my new bumper performs and with my hot water shower system in the works it'll make camp so much more comfy!
 
How did this whole T4R of the month thing work before?? Was there a moderator or admin that was in charge or was it taken care of by members??
Like can I just start a poll and then bingo most votes wins or what?

It seems like we have alot of nominations but no one is willing to narrow
them down and i'm assuming it's because nobody wants to insult the owners that get cut. Well unfortunately that's the nature of the beast, plus there's always next month. Christ were going to spend so much time bickering about nominations we'll miss Feb. To get the ball rolling, why can't we just take the first 5 nominated in this thread?? It may seem like a popularity contest but at least we can get T4ROTM back up and running and then work the kinks out as we go. Or to keep everyone happy we could take the first 10 and have a poll then take the top 5 as nominations and have the "T4ROTM poll". I don't guys, thats just my 2 cents.

The poll idea might be a good one. But we would need support from the moderators to post that winning 4unner on the first page, with a link to its' picture gallery and build thread. Maybe week 1 of the month all entries are entered. Week 2 we vote on which 5 to keep if more than 5. Week 3 and 4 we vote on 4runner of the month.

TRDCal you want to be the one who keeps pestering us to submit entries and to vote. I mean remind us every month.
