4Runner Performance Mods with Documentation

Damn really. I need to go there...
I need to smog my 2006 Sienna and they always put the sniffer on her and put it on the dyno.
 
It's funny because there's only a few things that need to really be beefed up to get those V8's to accept that boost reliably. But then again, Toyota tends to have their moments of weirdness...


Unfortunately the logistics of beefing up pistons, rods, and crank isn't that simple when considering a port/dealer installed supercharger. You overbuild and reduce fuel economy for the 99.5% of buyers that won't supercharge their truck/SUV for the 0.5% that will. New engines don't come apart so easily anymore so having the buyer upgrade the bottom isn't that practical either. Sucks, but it is what it is.

its kind of funny you say this, i was just reading about the 6.4L Hemi that Ram puts in their 2500 pickups. it was designed from the ground up as a medium duty engine, and as a viable gasoline alternative in power and durability to the cummins. it has all forged internals and at 425hp is rated at a 300,000 mile overhaul in heavy service application. Whipple is in the process of making a 2.1L twin screw supercharger for it, and the preliminary results are ridiculous.

I get that, but really the biggest issue with those V8's is the rods; to keep them the way they need to be would barely add a pound to the rotating assembly. Yes that's a bit of mass to add and I'm sure it'd scrape off a tenth of a gallon on the average. But honestly it was and is the weakest link in a lot of modern engines (which is why when most modern engines start detonating pretty well they just destroy themselves, they're already built so lean they are at the edge.)

Toyota doesn't have a medium duty truck. They don't have a reason to develop a gas engine with medium duty application.
