Glad you're okay, and glad that the guy who did this didn't get away with it.

Just a PSA: the 4runner has had the lowest number of highway fatalities per 100,000 accidents of any vehicle on the road since its introduction. That might not be an accident, pardon the pun.

I need to find the page on the NHTSA that had all that compiled.

I just got back from the tow yard. Pretty crazy.

First of all, glad you are ok.

I'm actually a bit disappointed to see how much the roof was pushed in/down in the front. Did you hit the guard rail or something similar longitudinally in between the A-pilllars? How far was the roof from your head after the accident?

Also, the D-pillar crumbled in way too much, a 3rd row seat doesn't look so safe back there.

The good part is that it looks the 5th gen roof strength is improved over 4th gen (based on the pictures of rollovers I've seen).

Going into details, I see cracks on a front wheel...looks like sideways force was pretty brutal on it but regardless of a crack OEM wheel did not fall apart.

It is because the OEM tires don't have triple ply sidewall!!

Actually, this has been a point of concern for me. 5th gen 4runners have excellent crash test scores...except for one: Roof strength evaluations: Midsize SUVs

It can support only 3.87 times its weight...not that much better than FJ Cruiser (based on 4th gen) at 3.47. If the 5th gen was older, then i can excuse it...but, 5th gen came out in 2010 and Toyota knew about the higher standard for roof strength (as being tested by IIHS). (Toyota Highlander is older design, yet did excellent.) In a lowly car, i am not too concern about roof strength, but in a high COG SUV, roof strength is of greater concern...such as this accident or in those off-roading flips.

It happened pretty fast so I am not sure what parts actually made contact with the roof. I know that I drove through the guard rail and rolled at least once. (could have been twice but I wouldn't know) I felt like I still had quite a bit of room from my head and the crushed roof. The passenger side was certainly worse then the driver side.

I just came across this article and it looks like a 5th gen TE flipped over in the picture. The driver of the T4R survived. Unfortunately, a 26 yo driving a Blazer was killed.

That isn't a crack on the rim. That is the center cap. It is made out of plastic and looks as if it was gouged.

Glad that you are ok. It sucks when **** like this happens, I have seen myfair share of carnage(I am in Afghanistan) I dont like to see my fellow 4Runner friends hurt. Again glad you are OK. Mike

We got into 2 accidents like that in our Sequoia and for that reason, my whole family has been driving Toyotas (As well as the reliability). Without my immediate family we have 2 T4R, 1 Highlander and 1 GX470.

Update

Insurance valued the car for a pretty decent dollar. American National gave me $33,300 for a 2010 SR5 with premium package, 3rd row and 23,000k on it.

I should be driving away with a 2012 Magnetic Gray SR5 tonight! :reddance:

I have been thinking of buying a 2012 T4R, SR5, 4WD and the best offer I got so far is $33750+TTL with following option:
CP-convenience package, FE-50 state emissions, TH-Fabric-trammed 50/50third row, CF-premium carpet set, BM-ball mount, CB-cargo cross bars, CN-cargo net.

So my out-the-door price would be around $36220, much higher if comparing your options. I'm just wondering if your out-the-door price includes the tax. By the way, I'm in Texas and the tax rate is 6.25%.

That said the Auto Dimming mirror was available as park of a package starting in 10'. But the De-icer & EnTune must be nice

The $36,000 is not including taxes. (lucky for me the other guys insurance company paid for my sales tax)
