Hey to all just changed the plugs out of my '00 4.7 V-8 Tundra, used NGK BKR6EYA's, man talk about a difference!! so the question is can I put these plugs in my '03 V-8 4Runner or stick with the Iridiums? my Runner only has 38K on it but it is new to me and I want to "tune" it up. thanks for the help, CSM-H

PS. will probaly do a trans fluid service, just the pan and add 4 quarts of synthetic, (do I have to use Toyota fluid?, or can I mix Mobil1?) maybe the differentials also.

Iridiums last 100K, and are the best plugs on the market. Don't make sense to change them!

If your trans has a dip-stick (which I think it does), it uses regular fluid. Follow the owner's manual, I think it calls for a fluid change at 30/40K miles. If you plan on keeping the vehicle you may want to put in synthetic (expensive). If you do it should last another 100+K miles. The 05 V8 comes with a sealed trans (no dip-stick) and should last over 100K miles.

Koz, thanks again, as you are the only one responding.....there seems to be some confusion, in opinions on what the "03 uses, Dextron III ('00 Tundra uses), T-IV, and if it's either can I mix in a gallon of Mobil 1? thanks, CSM-H

The 2003 V8 uses ATF-T-IV for the Tranny
It was $ 3.82/qt at my dealer. I think I bought 4 qts
The Dextron stuff only gets used in the power steering pump

Greasefingers thanks for the response, Dextron III is ATF fluid (vs. Dextron power steering fluid) and is compatable with other ATF fluid. I just needed to know if the '03 used the Toyota stuff (T-IV) because apparently you can't buy it anywhere but Toyota. thanks for the response. CSM-H

If you are going to service the tranny with synthetic then I would think you have to change ALL the tranny fluid, which will require a flush and like 20 quarts to do it correctly.

If you just want to do the simple service on your tranny with the 4 quarts I would stick with exactly what is in there now.
