4runner TRD Pro

more mileage questions:

I put 1/8th of a 16 ounce can of SeaFoam every 700 miles in the summer. I drive about 3000 miles per month from May through September.

In the winter (October through April) I put 1/6th of a 16 oz can of Sea Foam every 700 miles. I drive about 2300 miles per month in the winter.

I drive less down hill in the winter so I have less chance of sliding through icy intersections at the bottom of hills.

In the summer I "vent" my sunroof on days where the temp is above 60 when I'm going less than 40 mpg.

My summer and winter tires are the same however I've lost .8 mm of tread depth since March. I've rotated my tires every 10,000 miles and changed my oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic. I've used a Fram extra guard filter for my summer oil changes and a Wix filter for my winter oil changes.

I wash my car more frequently in the winter than the summer- about every 3 weeks in the winter and every 5 in the summer.

I carry extra supplies in my vehicle in the winter that total to be around 15 pounds in addition to wearing thicker socks- typically a merino wool blend. I prefer smart wool over other brands.

My mileage is better in the summer by 9.844 percent.

I have a few questions that you guys might be able to help me with:

1. Who gives a shit?
2. If I buy my SeaFoam from Wal Mart is it just as good as from an auto parts store?
3. What color is my vehicle?
4. Who makes a better 9 mm FMJ round for my Glock?; Federal or Blazer?
5. What make/model/style of beer am I drinking right now?
6. When the F is my TRD Pro being delivered?

Thank you for your participation.

hahahah

Sucks man!

Where are you getting the service done? If you are willing to change things up this late in the game I would highly recommend Camelback Toyota in Phx. I personally know the Director of Service and can put you in touch with him. He is a great guys and has owned many modified Toyota 4x4s. Even better yet is the fact that many of the Service Managers and techs all have lifted/modified Land Cruisers, 4Runners, and FJ Cruisers. The best thing about this shop is the face that they will never tell you something like "you lifted your 4x4 and that is why the radio went out". They even offer great discounts on service to those who are Copper State Cruiser members.

I agree. Toyota replaced the transmission in my 100 Series Land Cruiser with a reman after the torque converter gave up the ghost and took the transmission with it. I was very happen with the transmission and the service. Toyota did offer a decent warranty on the work and the transmission. I don't remember the exact numbers but I was able to negotiate and was happy in the end. I would try to talk them in to the 36K mile warranty that covers everything else new in the TRDP.

Good to hear that Camelback is good. I have had experience with Findlay in Henderson, NV. They were awesome. I'll give Findlay Toyota in Flagstaff a shot because they are closer to me, and I go there a lot more than PHX.

I know it's all new inside, it's still the principle of new with new and not new with old. I paid for the Toyota extended warranty to 100k (well worth it in my opinion) so that warranty will supersede any warranty that Toyota will give me unless its lifetime on a remanned tranny.

Went to the dealership last night again and spoke with the General Manager. He suggested I call Toyota back and ask to speak with a supervisor. I called them back first thing this AM and they are working on finding out if Toyota will authorize a new transmission in my new car. Told them that I am a loyal Toyota customer, have owned 5 Toyotas in 8 years and put over 150,000 miles on them. I waited 5 months for this vehicle and spent $42,000. Waiting to hear back from Toyota now.

Need to know how to get to the other trails besides Broken Arrow. I tried enchantment, but I don't know if it was the correct trail. The trail I went on is really wide, not much for offroading, and had a ton of hiking / biking trails that split off it.

Why are you putting these on? Bigger wheels or to fill the wheels wells better? Just curious

Enjoy 2015 with your TRD Pro.

I am right there with you on the new transmissions. I would be pushing for that as well and I really hope that Toyota takes care of you. I know the Findlay dealerships well also and they are great. I am one of the Executive Directors of a yearly off-road charity event that takes place in AZ and Findlay Toyota has been our title sponsor for many years. I have seen their service department go out of their way to take care of Toyotas that have broken something out on the trail.

There are a good number of trails both named, and unnamed in the Sedona area. All open and legal of course. We will have to meet up with the TRDPs and run some of them.

Marble Mountains, just northeast of Chambless CA. Collecting Trilobites and rocks. Field Geology and off roading go hand in hand. My TRD Pro serves me well; very satisified with it!

Yes, the OEM brakes are pretty good, but the Pro is running a larger tire + higher center of gravity than all the rest of the models (as you well know)... I just think Toyota could at least dip their little hands into the parts bin and at the very least, throw on those TRD pads they so easily push in the accessory department. :-)

Curious, does the Pro have the braided brake lines like the Trail?

Also, not to derail this anymore than I already have (sorry)... has anyone used those TRD pads and noticed much of an improvement?

It doesn't have a larger tire. TRD has P265/70R17 tires just like my SR5.

I would be totally up for participating in something like that! Tell me more!

send me a PM if you don't mind with how to get to some new trails. We got 6" of snow in Cottonwood today!

So in case anyone was interested, I called Toyota twice in 2 days insisting on a brand new transmission. The first lady I talked with said it can't be done according to protocol. I sat with the General manager of the dealership I'm working with last night, and we chatted for about 45 minutes. He was great. He suggested that I call Toyota again and ask to speak to a supervisor.

I did that today. The gentleman I talked to was nice, and understood. He said he would do some research and get back to me later today. While I was waiting, the general manager, parts / service manager, and shop foreman all with a combined experience of almost 100 years with Toyota looked together and they came to the conclusion that it's impossible to get a brand new transmission from Toyota. All are remanufactured. No part number exists for a new transmission looking up by my VIN.

At 3:00 PM today I got a call back from the gentleman I spoke with earlier from Toyota corporate. He confirmed what the dealer is telling me. However, he did say that he would reach out to the regional manager located in Denver, CO to see what he said.

I got a call back at 4:00 PM from Toyota and he told me that the regional manager confirmed that it's not possible as well. They did offer to extend the warranty to increase my confidence and take care of me. Since I purchased the platinum extended warranty from Toyota, he said he would do some research and get back to me on Friday with my options. He also told me that Toyota stands behind their remanufactured parts and told me once again that "all components are completely new inside."

Long story, but remanufactured tranny is going in on Friday (weather permitting for delivery) and I have been promised it will be the same as new. Toyota attempts to get as close as they can to model, year and mileage for the remanufactured tranny, so in essence I was promised that I wouldn't get (for example) a tranny out of an FJ Cruiser that had 80,000 miles on it from 2008.

The following vehicles have the same Transmission as our 4Runner TRD PRO:
2008-2014 FJ Cruiser (I'm told that they only made 500 this year)
2008-2015 Tacoma
2008-2015 4Runner

The Dealer mentioned that I have been working with is Tony Divino Toyota in Ogden UT. They have been awesome and have done everything in their power to make sure I was taken care of. I'm sure that there are other dealers out there who would do the same. But I know of one who wouldn't: name of dealer is famous basketball player that played for the UT Jazz.

Had the windows tinted on my TRDP today.
Looks great, did you just match the front with the rear factory tint or did you go a little darker all around?

Also, in the process of ordering my TRDP the dealer was trying to sell me on some options they offered (big surprise). I got the 5 zone Clear Bra because I've always has that and think it's really beneficial. But the other product they were trying to sell me on was the Diamon-Fusion windshield treatment. Supposedly it makes the windshield stronger and less prone to chips and cracks, and also acts as a hydrophobic coating. It comes with a 3 year warranty in which they'll replace the windshield for free if anything happens to it. I didn't get it right away but it kind of sounds promising. A brief Google search led to mixed and dated reviews. Anyone on here have any experience with this product? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Wow! As mentioned, I was very happy with the reman transmission in my 100 Series. However, it was a 2001 and I replaced the transmission in 2009 and it had 120K on the clock. I am surprised that they will not just cough up a new one. Keep us updated.

As far as Sedona trails go, I will send along a PM to get you email address. I have a good number of GPS tracks that I can share if you have a compatible device.

Thanks for the info. How much darker is it?

15% over the factory rears, and 2 layers of 15% on the front two to best match the color and darkness of the rears. It's dark for sure, but I love it.

Here's another pic:

Supposedly it makes the windshield stronger and less prone to chips and cracks, and also acts as a hydrophobic coating. I purchased some diamond fusion from a local glass company- they make custom doors/windows & glass for stuff (patio tables, etc...) Anyways, you can buy a full bottle for around $75 and that'll get you enough diamond fusion to coat about 20 windshields. You apply it just like the RainX window de-fogger. It's pretty good stuff. You can drive through a heavy rain storm and not even need to use your wipers! Also, snow/ice does not stick to your windshield. Having said that after using both the Rain X version and the diamond fusion I would say the diamond fusion lasts about twice as long but you still have to re-apply it.

I wouldn't pay a dealership to apply it. Buy it yourself.
