Have you figured out something with this freaking noise?

I think that the struts and coils are mismatched, and in the cold, when the bushings contract, that introduces "play" into the system.

There is another member on the forum here who was able to get Toyota USA as well as Bilstein involved in diagnosing and driving his TRDP and their official response to him was pretty much, "This is totally normal and just inherent to the Bilstein system."

I took my TRDP to the dealer and told them that there was an official case open at the Toyota USA Corporate level and they said it didn't matter because they couldn't hear the clunking on mine when they test drove it. (suuuurrrrre you couldn't....whatever) My guess is that Toyota will not offer a solution/fix for it.

I've talked to a few other members on the forum who have installed the ToyTec lift kit that is specific for the TRDP and they have said that the clunking is completely eliminated upon installation. This is another thing which leads me to believe that the coils and struts are mismatched.

I have the ToyTec lift kit and will be installing it later this week. We shall see if that eliminates the clunk for me. When I have the struts out of the rig, I'm going to see if I can't suss out what's going on. Maybe will even try to mount a GoPro in there somewhere and drive around to see if I can observe any play.

I can hear this noise while drive on a NOT perfect road at about 70mph but as soon as I hit a good road again the noise goes away. I'm very disappointed at this noise since it's a 45K+ vehicle.

My 2016 Trail Premium doesn't make a noise, clunk, or whatever you all want to call it. It's perfect! I feel like jumping for JOY!

O.K., I may have removed the multi-terrain controls today, it takes a small screw driver to push the metal pins back and the unit will come out. (Closest to windshield.) I unplugged the unit from the ceiling and it was much quieter... I won't say its fixed but I'm headed in the right direction. The metal tabs that hold it in place make the noise I'm concerned with. I have placed a small amount of cloth hockey tape on the metal tabs and plastic it is attached to keep it from vibrating and I will drive it again tomorrow and let you know the results.
I also have an appointment with the dealer on Wed. Given I have had the vehicle for 7 weeks, and have drove 7800 miles, the noise is unacceptable and it has to be fixed......

On a side note, I removed the rubber side skirts in the wheel wells because I know that has been an issue for some, but it wasn't the fix for me....

Update, the cloth tape did not work, actually not surprised, so I am trying a more aggressive approach. I will update tomorrow.

Oh sh*t!! I thought you were talking about the infamous suspension clunk. My bad!! That's what I get for trying to reply to things on the fly at work. Sorry you're having that issue, I hope you're able to get it sorted!

dump the spacers, dude. they will be more trouble than they are worth. i also have the toytec kit and I'm happy with it. I was able to sell my terra grapplers for $500 with 13,000mi on them. They went very quickly. Used that $$ toward 285/70/17 TRAIL GRAPPLERS and it totally changed the look of the truck and the tires are awesome off road and pretty quiet on the pavement. just some food for though.

i ended up getting the TRAIL GAPPLERS for about $930 dollars for the set. well well well worth it. they are very badass.

Very nice! Where was that? I have had mine for one month and I haven't taken her offroad yet. Not sure where I can go here in Utah besides MOAB.

This was in Moab. Haha. The thing is a beast off road. Went all the way through Fins N Things with no problems at all. And this was before the lift as well.

I don't blame you. I'd personally hold out for the cement since it's not a standard Toyota color and I like it a lot.



Somebody should "eprice" that one and post it. Betcha it isn't $2500 off.....

Wait for the '17 cement. Looks so awesome -- hell,..I'll be tempted to trade my black one when they come out,...and I do love my black one. But that cement color,....man....

Only on the driver's side at full right-hand lock when backing up (and it is very very minimal at that). Otherwise, no rubbing. I'm putting on the ToyTec TRDP lift this week so it will be a non-issue soon.

You may rub with the 1.25" SpiderTraxx though, even with a lift, as you'll be moving the wheels/tires along a larger arc as a result.

I would definitely get rid of my Spidertrax when I do upgrade to 285s. Thanks for the input.
