Yeah I had pretty much come to the realization that I was most likely going to pay MSRP for a Pro.....then I found a dealer who was willing to take 2k off msrp and throw in the OEM all weather mat kit since it took longer than the 6-8 weeks I was originally quoted. Just have to keep looking and calling and looking and calling some more until you find one that will give you a good deal.
Cheers,
Chris
What did they give you for your trade compared to what kbb or edmunds says it it worth? I'm about to go through that myself. I just got the call that my Pro will be at the dealer between May 10th and 15th. It is going to be here faster than I thought. I was trying to time the selling of my 2008 Tacoma when I thought it was about a month out, but they surprised me with the call yesterday that it will be in sooner than I thought. So now I'm worried they will low ball me on my trade. Not sure I want to go through selling it myself, but also don't want to get low balled. That's very surprising to me that they took care of you like that. As high as the demand is for these things, the dealers can pretty much make their own rules it seems. I just purchased a 2017 Pro in barcelona red metallic, and I had to twist their arm to get anywhere close to what my trade in was worth (2015 Tacoma double cab TRD sport with 17,000 miles).
I was lucky enough to sort of "fall into" a pro... I wanted an Off Road Premium (ORP) with no sunroof or KDSS, and they couldn't get one allocated, but they did have a pro coming that hadn't been spoken for, so I threw my hat in the ring and waited for it to come in. If I didn't like it, no harm no foul, and I could keep waiting for what I wanted. Realizing that there probably won't be any ORPs made without a sunroof this late in production (if ever), I went with the pro and I'm very pleased. I will post pictures in an introduction, once I reach the coveted 15th post... :thumb3:
I countered with a figure higher than I wanted. They offered me $26,000 and I said I wanted $30,000... we arrived at $28,000. This was about $500 below what KBB and similar sites said my trade in was worth. My truck was particularly desirable, being a 2015. It had the Entune premium audio package with nav that had just come out, so it was sort of a segue year. Also, part of what I discovered was that they'll use these sites and quote your vehicle in "fair" condition instead of "good" or whatever category it falls into. My truck was basically brand new and they were trying to call it "fair", which was bullshit.
My advice to you would be to honestly appraise your vehicle using KBB and as many other resources that you can find, and print those quotes out to show them. The more sources with similar figures, the better your argument will be. Also, try to take advantage of a car buying service if it isn't too late (Costco, USAA, etc). I used USAA, and got a "coupon" that guaranteed me no more than $250 over MSRP, which I didn't need because they gave me MSRP.
It's a unique situation, because I don't think they care if you buy the vehicle or not, they probably have a waiting list at least 5 people deep. When my pro came in, it automatically popped up on the dealer's website, and people were calling from all over the US trying to buy it...
What dealer did you trade your Tacoma in to I am looking for one.
I agree the dealers feel empowered. When I picked mine up yesterday they played the game of salesman to the great OZ behind the curtain sales manager. I finally told the sales guy to bring the manager over. That prompted my displeasure for the power play of having more demand than supply and a caution that it won't always be that way. I traded in a 15 GMC Denali diesel and they tried to play me on kbb vs nada. They reminded me that they had plenty of people to buy the vehicle...I think Toyota corp needs to hear about these tactics...but maybe they support it!I countered with a figure higher than I wanted. Right Toyota in Scottsdale....told me my allocation went to the "manager" and come to find out they sold it for 5k over retail this week. i started talking to them in Oct before they had a clue they were getting Cement in the 4runner. Unfortunately a stereotypical experience there, go thing I didn't trust them from the beginning
I had a few issues with the dealer I bought my '15 Tacoma from, to the point where I contacted Toyota Corp USA and filed a formal complaint. They worked to resolve the issue, but were unsuccessful overall. Solved some issues, but not all. I think they're far too big of a company to be able to reach that many levels down to address an issue. The fact that many dealers are selling these things for well over MSRP would be an example of something they probably don't want happening, but don't have the visibility on to be able to stop it from happening.
For y'all's amusement....
Review: 2017 4Runner TRD Pro
Great informative article! I got to say I did not know the Canadian TRD Pro did NOT come with the KDSS. I had been lusting after a Canadian one since they did come with moonroof and other options the USA ones did not come with.
Picked up my TRD Pro today and all I can say is it drives great. Coming from a 2500 diesel to this the ride is just amazing.

MSRP in CA is pretty rare. Hope a forum member snatches it up.
