4Runner vs Land Crusier; any opinions???

G'day T4R team mates,

Let me start off by saying, that I loved my 3rd generation (1998 Sr5), 4Runner so much, that I just recently (4-21-12), purchased a 2012 "limited" (in Bliz)...and I love it!

But just prior to the 4R search, I was checkin' out some "Land Crusiers", cuz I really thought that I would be grading, upward; which is always my objective wrt large scale purchasing/investing.

I had no idea what they cost, it wasn't really an issue at the time...until I saw "The Sticker"! $75-80 Grand...are you kidding me???! When I 'came to', I wanted to see the 4Runners.

Maybe someone can tell me something that would justify the "Grossly inflated" price tag.
When I checked out the Land Crusier's optional packages, I didn't see anything that couldn't be obtained a in the Trail or Limited, of any signifigant necessity; maybe it's a status thing?!

You could probably get the Lexus LX for the same price and have better re-sale value and like Brock said I think it's more of a status symbol.

For the same price I'd buy a LE have almost all the same bells and whistles and have another $40 grand to mod the Sh*t out of it.

I thought that, that might be the case, as with the "Land Rover", the "Lexus 470"....etc!

Unless you have a LARGE boat to tow, the Land Cruiser V.4Runner is the very definition of diminishing returns.

A T4R with $40k in mods would weigh more than a LC and still have a V6. Hopefully in that $40k you could manage a diesel engine!

The 200 Series is an awesome truck. The problem with the LC is Toy only imports a fully loaded truck so the cost is too high. Who wants to pay $75K plus $15 in mods to beat the s**t out of it on the trail? The rest of the world gets a stripped down basic work truck.

I actually wanted a 100 series but went for the 4Runner only because I thought it would get better mpg (which I don't think is true), I really wanted a new vehicle and I already have an 80 for wheeling and didn't really need another big vehicle.

Unless you only drive it to the mall, it is NOT a status symbol. If you can afford it, mod it and take it wheeling.

I've had a 99' 100 series Land Cruiser with rear diff lock, got over 200k miles on it when i sold it couple of years ago. i would get another one in a heart beat if i can afford a new 200 series.

4runner is the closest thing you can get right now.

Last year a local dealer was offering $12,000 off sticker price on one that was sitting around the lot too long! It stay offered for almost 2 months with that 'discount', and it was NEW!

I would guess that 1/100 here in the states never see so much as a forest service road. An 80k fully loaded SUV is for status. Don't misunderstand, I love the Land Cruiser. If I hit the lottery I would happily build one, if I had to buy one I would save the cash and buy a 4R or Sequioa.

You are obviously not considering the LC for its off road capability and the Sequoia (sp) is likely your better choice.

I am not considering it at all, nor am I considering anything other than what I bought. I could afford a new LC if I wanted one, but I would not take that behemoth out on a trail and beat on it after the $80k car note. If I needed more offroad capability than I have in my current 4R, I would buy a Trail and have the KDSS/Crawl/etc.

Now, an 80 series, hell yes.
