4Runner vs the others

I seriously was down to buying one of 2 SUVs.

4Runner and a 05 Pathfinder,

I can honestly say, bias aside,
The 4Runner drives A LOT better than the Pathfinder.

Pathfinder felt like I was driving a truck. The 4 Runner is a lot smoother, almost car like.

Unbelievable how much of a difference there is.

I found the Pathfinder to be a rattle trap and it just felt cheaply made....even compared to my basic SR5.

Absolutely. I'm looking for 96 3rd Gen for my friend, and I can't find any cheaper then $8000-$9000 in good condition, some are $10-$11. Same year Pathfinder is selling for $4500-$5500.

I have never been in a Pathfinder, but they look like a minivan. Also, you can't get a V8 on the Pathfiner.

i've driven a rental Pathfinder, visibility is not that great too. you look over your right shoulder and you'll come face to face with a wide side pillars, need not to say anything if your look otherwise. the interior is,...eh never mind.

Some of us what a truck not a car. Nothing wrong with a truck ride if you are buying a truck. If you want a car like ride buy a Highlander like my wife.

Well, IMO that (along with reliability) is the 4th generation 4Runner's greatest attribute: you have a "real" off-road capable SUV that still maintains excellent on-road characteristics with good handling and a measure of comfort. The best of both worlds.

I also compared against the newly redesigned Pathfinder and found the 4Runner to handle better with less road noise and a more comforatble ride. Surprising since the Runner has a live rear axle and the Pathfinder has an IRS.

One of the thing's I liked about the 4R is that it rode smooth and handled really well , but still had a truck like fell and ride to it. I personally like a truck like ride.

I don't know much about Nissan Pathfinder but my friend has one that's smaller than my 4R , I think it's about 2 or 3 year's old. It's a 4dr with a v6 and the gas milage is fricken horrible ( at very best , even hi way driving 16 mpg ) it rattles like hell and quality is no where near the Runner, be he like's Nissan so I guess that's all that count's since he makes the payments.

Don't they make a big and a small Pathfinder ? Like a regular one and that Armada thingy ???

I looked at both a while back, and honestly, the pathfinder peaked in 2002-2004 as long as you weren't interested in leg room and safety issues. The 3.5L engine was absolutely phenomenol for power, and the road manner and comfort for the driver and passenger were very good. The new model leaves a lot to be desired, but they make great commercials. Nissan built their Xterra for off-road and the Pathfinder to be a mall queen. It's bigger than the 4runner and underpowered... Gas mileage is mediocre, and IMO, the styling is very bland... First couple of years, they had a bad reputation for reliability (pathfinders that is)..

I'd stick with the 4runner - better value, better resale, awesome vehicle.

It's like they squeezed it out of a tube and cut it off with a hot butter knife. The rear end just looks so chopped off. Nissan was like, "eh let's finish the rear end design after lunch," and never came back. You could probably stand a Pathfinder up on its end since it's so flat.

Right on, I think Nissan's SUV line is just horrid. Nothing even remotely classy or sporty looking. I had to go back to my Toyota roots for a dependable SUV with nice looks and a rugged frame.

Exactly a year ago, I was faced with the same decision... Used V8 Sport 4Runner or a new Pathfinder. I test-drove both and although the Pathfinder wasn't "bad" in handling, it just didn't feel as nice and tight as the 4Runner. The part that almost swayed me was the fact that I could get a loaded-to-the-gills Pathfinder for about the price of a base 4Runner. I decided to buy a slightly-used '03 V8 Sport 4Runner for about $7k less than a new pathfinder and never looked back. I've never even thought about owning one after that.

The standard 3rd row seats were a cool feature, in case I needed to cart around more than 5 adults, but I figured I'd almost never need to do that... I really wanted a V8 since I knew I'd be doing some heavy towing (5,000lbs at least, on occasion), which left the Pathfinder out in the cold; plus the Pathfinder's interior just seemed really cheap, almost as if it would fall apart in the next year or two.

Get the 4Runner; you will be much happier in the long run.
