Christmas in Nathrop Colorado

We spent Christmas at the Mt Princeton hot springs resort. We live in central Texas so we had fun with the little snow we got. We did attempt to drive up to a spot on top of the mountain and encountered blizzard like conditions. Heavy and deep snow. The 4Runner did awesome but probably made me too confident. We turned around just shy of 9,900ft when we saw folks pulled over and off loading their snow mobiles.

Truckee last year, we were getting this much snow every night for a week straight. SR5 did great, even with the stock tires and before the Icon suspension/lift.

Nice...we were probably there at the same time. I was plowing snow that deep at our house for many days last year.

You guys can thank me for all of the snow. We moved to The Bay Area for 3+ years, three of the driest and worse snow years for the Tahoe area. I was snowboarding on mud half the time. My wife’s job moves us to Florida and then you get that... :frusty: :doh:

LOL...We live in the South Bay and in Truckee...this year sucks so far. What little snow we have is sketchy and the backcountry avy conditions are moderate to high.

I'm seriously considering buying a house in Truckee before I buy one in the South Bay. If I did, I'd want to hire a property management company/person to deal with renting it out when I'm not using it. Do you rent yours out when you're not up there?

I finally broke down and am getting Michelin's installed on Thursday after driving in a a few storms with the Dunlops. I looked hard at other tires but in the end the LTX is a tough tire to beat in snow/ice. Even during the many blizzards I have driven through in 21 years with my old Toyota Tacoma's...mind you with nothing but a tonneau cover for extra weight. It really isn't a tire that should be judged by it's "looks".

My Dad had a 3rd Gen, 5-speed and lived north of Lake George. He drove this all over pulling his fishing boat, hunting and target shooting. When he past away, it had 150K on it and the only thing he replaced was the electric antenna (Kept breaking it due to snow). I drove this several times, had Michelin LTX's on it with north of 40K on them........best darn snow truck ever. Completely predictable and literally would go through anything.

My Better Half is renting hers out right now on a yearly lease. We have both dealt with the vacation rental properties in the past and found it to not be so much fun. The housing market in Truckee is contingent on the snow so...buy on a "no snow" year.

TOTALLY off topic...What front bumper are you running? Looks great.

I actually have no idea to be honest, I purchased the car this way. I haven't been able to find any bull bars that look like this that are specific to 4Runners, so I assume it's some generic bull bar of some sort? The front bumper itself is otherwise stock.

I use BFK KOs and usually have coupld bags of sand in the back for extra weight.

This was on top of Wolf Creek Pass in southern Colorado last winter. I am born and raised CO. I saw two of the worst blizzards I've ever been in last winter on that pass. my 4Runner Trail with BFG KO2s did absolutely phenomenal in the snow. This is by far the best winter vehicle, and overall vehicle, I have ever owned.
