4th gen 4runner DDM tuning HID install

I've ran both my DDM and Clear View ballast completely underwater for extended periods of time while fording water. I have however had terrible luck with DDM's bi-Xeon bulbs

DDM must have dropped their prices if you paid $35 that's not bad. Years ago when they were all the rage they sold their kits for around $60 once you factored in shippingz

I've said this before, it's temporary until I save for a kit. Read the first page, I mentioned TRS. Also, the 4runner isn't a daily driver, it's mostly used in the mornings.

Are they still selling the thick ballast?

I bought mine 3 yrs ago and still goin strong up to now. I might buy a back-up kit and extra bulbs,. Someone in youtube boiled that thing(ballast) and plugged back on.. lights up!

Slim ballast it's half the size of an iPhone.

Sorry but your setup suck, not to mention glare and dim output of 8000k. U should retrofit some true hid projectors and use quality parts, if u decide to change it when it craps out, go to The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications for all hid needs.

This is just a post of IMPO.
I have been running some cheap off the wall kit since 2008 and have been through 3 sets of bulbs. The issue is that there is no relay harness to feed voltage to the ballast during start up. If you leave the lights on and start the truck yours lights flicker and go out part of the time. I've seen others with kbcarstuff HID kits. Personally my friend has a set, the Extreme Kit without the Phillips bulbs in a Tacoma that the headlights are the DRLs, on all the time. The relay harness is the ticket to better life for your bulbs. IMO. I am an Electrical Engineer so I might not know everything. It's all about saving money and getting the best you can afford. I'm been running 4300K's for about 5 years and have never been stopped or lights flashed back at me (every so often, mostly after coming up over a hill). Keep them reflector OEM's turned downed just a little and respect other drivers eyes. I just bought a set (tonight) of the Extreme HID Kit 4300K with the relay harness from kbcarstuff.com with the promo code t4r and got $25 off my order. $144.99 shipped with 3 Year legitimate replacement warranty.

Thanks for understanding, thats exactly how I feel. Well I am saving for a retrofit, so fear not people. This truck is rarely used at night.. Also, not to mention, that I haven't been flashed even once yet. I did level the headlights down, and i dont have any problems. Relay harnesses and what not are of no use for me, I'm only running this for 2-3 months.

I had 5000k not the blue 8000k , also had the stock halogen projectors, the reflectors are worst with deadly glare. I can t go back to stock after i retrofited, best thing i did.

Quad bixenon looks kool, but it dosent give u much more light, i suggest a ls460 retro if u want bixenon, even the low only ls430 is plenty. U can do what cookieroe did and have tl projectors, oem projectors is better than aftermarket, i been there and done that so i can tell whats a better option. The fxr is a big step up from stock reflectors, but oem projetors like ls430, ls460, tl, fx35/45, s2k, rx-afs, is a better performer. Too much light will hurt distance viewing, i dont even have my fogs on anymore.

2004, regular halogen reflectors (for now)

Hey guys! Just an update on my DDM tuning HID install (did them myself!).

So the steps on how it worked.

3000k (fog lights):

1) plugged the bulb into the housing, and removed the original. Plugged it into ballast, and then plugged the ballast into OEM wiring. (the second bulb wasn't fitting on the right side, I think the housing might of been screwed up. I fit it in, and then used tape to hold its position (temporary.)

The bulbs I got from DDM were too long to fit the fog housings or the low beams.
Down the drain money.

Doesn't the 2005 4runner have OEM projector housings? You probably need a different bulb.

haha. Well I got a quote for about 600$ for a retrofit on my 4runner, bi-xenon with s2k (took your advice and did some research, and the s2k seem to be the best ones.) and then like 50$ for halos. (amber halos for dRLs) Ill keep you posted
