4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

zopperman good to see you got it figured it. Definitely didn't look right, makes sense now. The Eibach setup should suit you well. I agree with BigNuge, I prefer to keep the sway bar on. Even with the icons, I don't like the added body roll with it removed. A lot of folks run without it and are pleased, all personal preference.

Yeah, I'm gonna try without it first, easy enough to put back on.

After looking at the diagram again, I'm not sure that it's upsdie down, they make have just forgot the shock retainer... on both sides. I'll find out when I tear it all apart in a week. My stuff should all be here by monday. I'm looking forward to eliminating this horrible clunk I've been living with

zopperman as promised, i investigated the fj struts i had, and found that things were weirder than i thought...so i have the bottom washer and bushing, but the top washer and bushing are mysteriously missing... pics attached.

Is it possible that the bottom bushings are still on the shocks and that the tops were placed over the bottoms and none on the top hats?

i get what youre saying, but theres nothing else there, its just the shaft of the shock to where it becomes threaded, and the bottom washer and bushing are there, the top bushing/washer combination are not there

What kind of shocks are the ones you have, and can you take a pick with out the coil?

I thought i would post this here instead of starting another thread:

So i just picked up an 06 T4R Sport with XREAS and also just got some Camburg coilovers for the front.
I have a question on the rear suspension, i know i have to remove the rear shocks because of the XREAS system but do i need to remove the coils as well?

I am only going for like an inch of lift in the rear. Will Bilsteins suit me good? or do i need to get coils as well.
And also will i need to get longer brakelines?
thanks in advance

You can lift the rear using a spacer (cheapest route) or you can replace the spring for a taller one.

And no for a 1" lift you do not need to lengthen anything.

Do some research all the information you seek is here. Just have to find it.

Hey guys, I'll be putting some kind of new suspension under my 4runner next spring but first I was hoping you could help me with a few questions before I start hitting the add to cart button. I'll try to keep this pretty straight forward.

Truck: 2005 V8 4Runner 4WD

What I want out of a suspension package:

1. Flat CV angles
2. A level ride. (No more rake)
3. Quality parts that will last me another 80k-100k
4. I will be doing mostly city/highway driving. Not much off-road.
5. Adjustability. I want little to no lift now but maybe one day I want to jack it up 3".

The suspension kit I have been looking at is on toytec's website, the Radflo complete suspension lift kit with extended travel shocks. I will also be purchasing the LR UCA's because after reading up they are very adjustable and the lift kit I am looking at requires aftermarket UCA's anyway.

My Questions:

1. The kit comes with Radflo brand coilovers (eibach springs). The rear Radflo shocks cost $250.00 more than the Bilstein 5100's. Does that necessarily mean the Radflo's are a better shock.

2. I would like to run as little "lift" as possible but enough to achieve a leveled out ride. Will these rear springs fit what I am looking for?

3. Are the 2 1/2" shock bodies and 650lb springs overkill for what I am looking for? I don't mind a stiff ride on the street.

4. Can I run the extended travel version of these shocks with little to no lift?

Thanks for any help/input,

Mark

Mark - I would skip the a Radflo based on what you mentioned.

I would suggest calling DSM (DownSouth Motorsports) and discussing their Fox & Icon options. They also do custom valving.

Instead of the LR UCA's check out the DSM/Desert Products UCA and/or the Total Chaos w/OEM BJ as another option that uses an OEM BJ (booted).

What he said, haha. Although I have come to really like my Radflo 2.0's after getting them revalved...

Not sure if this has been talked about? But is it possible to take the springs and shocks off a 2007 fj and install on a 2006 4runner? Thanks for any info and great post ark! Was looking for a thread just like this !

Yes, this is very common to swap FJ components to a 4Runner.

Yes there is a stickied FAQ thread on that exact topic.
