4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Hey Guys,

I have a 04 with 2.5/1.5 Daystar and 265/70/17 BFGs. Was looking into getting new shocks. Not looking for any more lift.. What would work best with my set up?

Do the bilsteins 5100's

Springs...you can keep stock or find fj springs if you aren't adding a big bumper.

Leave bilstens on factory setting for minimal additional lift...or notch up , your choice. I would be cautious and prob only go second from bottom.

Good luck.

Thanks! I ordered 5100's for front and back and some FJ rear coils. I'll just use stock springs up front with the 5100's and the Shrockworks bumper.

Here's to hoping I don't end up in a nose dive!

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the 5100's. Seems to be a couple different options. Is this accurate? Do they make different models of the 5100s.?Adjustable, non adjustable, etc? Do I want the same for front and rear. I want to keep the option open for adding slightly more lift, coils, etc. in the future. Not looking for much lift if any with the 5100's. Maybe 1/2" at the most if possible with my current set up.

Cornfed lift kits

Just wanted to update everyone on the Cornfed kits. My guy is now making the driver side rear spacer aprox .25" thicker so the rear sits level. If you haven't noticed, the driver side rear sits lower on that side due to gas tank, battery etc. This means after the kit is installed, the rear, left and right will be the same. We can also do any size you want custom also.

Yes there are different models. If I were you I would keep the 1.5 rear spacer, remove the front spacer and go with the adjustable 5100s in the front (that's what I plan on when I replace my shocks). You can use the spacer with the 5100s, but I wouldn't lift it too much more beyond the 1st or 2nd notch on the adjustable shocks if you do that.

DD build

Hey everyone. I have an 04 sr5 4x4. I want to eventually have mid travel. can I just get whatever coilovers and uca's and eventually get the TotalChaos LCA' s and ultimately have mid travel? Also what is better, toytec super flex or metal tecs Iong travel rear suspension? Thanks all and sorry if this topic on mid travel has been discussed.

Have a question on the rear suspension. I currently have daystar 1.5" spacers and l am looking to replace the springs and dump the spacers. I am looking at the toytec super flex springs or the ome 895's. Both increase the rear height by 2 inches. I am looking to get a little more flex than what I have. The shocks I have are Rancho RS9000s. What I am wondering is if I replace my springs but keep my current shocks will I get more flex or do I need to replace both. The bilstiens and OME shocks I have looked at only have about a .5" more travel than the Ranchos I currently have. Will that .5" really make that big of a difference or will I be fine with what I have?

The shocks limit your travel, so you would have to replace them to get more flex than what you currently have.1/2" in shock length will translate into a little more at the wheel, but being "worth it" is entirely up to you.

Looking to get a little advice if someone can help me out. I just acquired a set of 2013 FJ Springs/Shocks. I am looking to put them on my 07 4Runner V6 4x4. I saw the mods that have to be done to the shocks/rear body of the 4Runner and I am ok with that. My question is will I need to add a spacer to make it level? I saw some pics of someone with the FJ Springs/Shocks with a 2.5/1.5 daystar and it appears like it raised the front too much. I am wondering if maybe doing just a 1.5" spacer in the front and a 1" in the back would level it while giving it more lift. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I could do you a 1" front, then you could take measurements after install and then could make you a custom sized real spacer.

But, I've sold plenty of 2/1 kits on 4th gens with FJ springs and many like the results with the cornfed kit.

You should end up with 1" lift in front and 1/2" rear from the FJ shocks and coils. I'd suggest doing some measuring on your 4runner to determine how much higher you want it. Several run the FJ setup with the Daystar Budget Boost front spacer and Daystar 1.5" rear. This is basically the same as the 2.5/1.5 kit but you'll end up with a 2/1.5 lift (plus what you get from the fj coils).

Hey guys! First off this thread is awesome so thanks to all the major contributors especially swamp rider. I have read thru most of the posts over the last week and have a good idea of the options. That being said most of the non coilover options reference ride quality in relation to stock. We bought a used sport edition a couple weeks ago and took it to the desert yesterday. It still has the original XREAS on there with 170k miles. The truck was bottoming out at low speeds with very little weight in the vehicle. Safe to say the XREAS is shot. So I have no real reference point for a "stock ride". We are looking for new suspension but I feel coil overs would be a waste of $$$. We have a 10 month old and have no intention of hardcore off-roading at higher speeds but do like to venture out to remote areas to camp. Also a lift wouldn't hurt . So long story short is the "stock ride quality" solid enough for handling all the bumps and rocks on these trails at around 20 mph? Thanks!

Yep, it's definitely shot. I would do Bilsteins on all 4 corners. These trucks ride great stock, and better than just about any other suv for a stock setup. Did you want to lift it too?

Hey man thanks for the reply. Might as well give it a lift too lol. Ya we were thinking 2-2.5" to be on the safe side. Bilsteins still the way to go?

Icon lift

Hi,
I just got my icon lift installed on 03 V8 Ltd. I've gotten this far with all the help on this forum!

Before I get it aligned Tuesday, I'd like to set my front coilover to about 2 3/4" lift to save problems with getting into alignment specs < 3" without needing new uca's. The issue is measurements are 3 7/8" with lots of height adjustment left on the coilover. Probably my front was super low to start with.

Can anyone tell me what front measurements should I have between center wheel hub and
under wheel well so I'm between 2 1/2 & 3" lift?? If I max the adjustment on coilovers will I reach 3" or go over?

So far it's looking great and ridding extremely well but wasn't hard comparing it to a broken down RAS and xreas.

Thank you for sharing your measurements.
