4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I am in a 2001 right now with a daystar 3/2 lift and I really like it...I am looking at upgrading and buying a used 2006 v8 limited 170k miles...I want to lift it in this specific way but need help answering a few questions with regard to lift...I do not off road at all, I just like the lifts for aesthetics.

what I want to do is:

1. change out the shocks to bilstien 4600 hd yellow sport shocks
2. the daystar 3/2,
3. put 1.25" spider trax spacers on all 4 to bring the wheels and tires out a bit for a better stance,
4. then I am not sure about tire size, I want to go as large as I can, I either want to go with:

a. P 265 /65 R18 112T SL RWL
or
b. P 265 /70 R18 114T SL RWL

in this tire: bf goodrich rugged terrain (p rated)

the "70s" come out to be 1 inch taller according to the tire size calculator, I think I am ok width wise as to the upper control arms, but not sure if I would have rubbing issues in any other locations (body mount, over fenders [due to spacers] or running boards) if I go to the 265/70/18s

I dont' want to have any rub issues or body mount chops? i want/need to keep the running boards as the wife and kids need them to get in the truck...thanks for you input.

also the truck is in great shape, no nav, needs front brakes and a "flush" not sure of what but that is what the seller said is recommended...is $9k a decent deal for this car? seems a little high to me for the mileage...thanks again.

The Bilstein 4600s are for stock height vehicles, I would not suggest them for your setup. You can get 5100s which are made for lifted vehicles. On the front, the shocks are adjustable for up to 2.5" of lift, so you wouldn't need the Daystar kit. For the rear, you can buy just the 1.5" Daystar spacer for $40.

I think you'd have rubbing issues with the 265/70/18s, so I'd suggest the 265/65/18. I haven't looked at prices lately, but that seems to be a fair price for a 2006.

So, to level and lift everything, then the billies in front will need to be adjusted to the 2.5" highest setting with the the rear 5100s with the 1.5"?

so if I go with 265/65/18s I should be able to throw the Spidertrax 1.25" all the way around on there as well without any rub issues?

Yes, ditch the front spacer, keep the rear.
Doubt you would get any rubbing with those and the lift. Should be good.

I have read ALOT of the thread and have determined I would like to go with the OME 884s front, Toytec rear and Bilstein 5100s all around. Setting the front 5100s at .85.....is there anything I missed? Thank you so much for all this enlightenment...:thumb:

That's a solid setup IMO. Only thing to add is a swaybar relocate, it may or may not be needed, won't know until after the install.

On my V8, I used virtually brand new springs from a 2013 5th gen SR5 and got results similar to FJ springs (plus Bilstein 5100s set at .85). My lift numbers are a little higher than average (1.75 front and .75, .5 rear) but it was a very saggy suspension so I think the results are right in line.

Yes, any year FJ coils will fitt. If you use 2011+ FJ shocks, some modification will be required.

I just picked up some Bilstein 5100's for the front of my '06 v6 4wd. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the higher settings increase stiffness...is this true? Wondering if I should split the difference and use a spacer...I'd like to end up with a 2-3" lift and level.

Did you do Bilstein all the way around? Trying to decide for sure if my 5th Gen stuff will go in my buddy's 4th Gen. If my rear shocks will fit that's even better. Thx!

What is the biggest tire size i can go without removing my spidertraxx spacers and without a body chop. Minor trimming is fine

Yeah, Bilstein all around. I'd expect the 5th gen stuff to fit. Perhaps a tiny bit of grinding might be needed to expand the shock mounting hole like on the later Model FJ shocks, not sure.

lift advice needed

I have read through this whole thread and learned a great good information. I have a 2005 sr5 totally stock with new BFG KO2 265 70 17 C load. I have 85k on the truck and was looking for some feedback on a couple of lift options. First off, I have a set of FJ coils that came off a 2012 trail model. These will be replacing the stock springs and will provide some lift and hopefully better ride qualities. I also have 4 bilstein 5100s that will be replacing stock shocks.

Here are my two options. Any feedback on pros and cons would be much appreciated. The truck is my DD and i also do mild to moderate wheeling In the mountains.

Option one would be to intall the springs and 5100s, set the front 5100 to 1.75 and also install a rear 1.5 inch spacer. Since this is a v6 i would anticipate 2.5 to 2.75 inches in the front and 1.75 to 2 inches in the rear.

The second option would be to just install the FJ springs and set the front 5100 to .85. I would most likely be looking at the front being lifted 1.75 to 2 inches and the rear at .25 to .5 inches.

Anyways, i was hoping to get feedback on both options along with pros and cons. I am doing this lift to have a mire capable trail rig along with better looking truck. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I just purchased that exact setup. Suspension delivery expected Saturday. Tires on Monday. Installation Tuesday or Wednesday.

In my analysis, I wanted to keep a full size spare that matched the other 4. I believe 285/70-17 was hit or miss as to if it would fit in the spare. I went with 275/70-17 BFGoodrich AT K02s. I expect minor trimming of the fender lining but no body chop.
