4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Assuming your not using any spacers

The Tacoma TRD coil/strut and the OME 883 will yield 2"s worth of coil only lift.

Left front as the gas tank and battery are on the left side of T4R.

Thanks again guys...I had a F@#% Turd mind last night..Getting excited to get my shocks and coils brought home from my neighbor. Love living next door to a Garage manager....They should be compressed and ready to install. :reddance:

Yes, and yes. The removal of sway bars will create more body roll, but many T4R owners have added stiffer springs which help with this. Once you learn new driving characteristics you should be fine (I speaking theoretically based on info here, but my sway bars are still in place for now). Some have gone so far as adding a sway bar quick disconnect so they can have sb's connected on road and disconnected when off road.

The spacer preloads your springs so they can't do as much as without the spacers. This is not a huge limitation, but taller springs will give you more articulation than a shorter spring with spacers.

ok, so I should be ok then since I have moog fj coils which are stiffer I believe. Any link to quick disconnects in case I choose to go that route also. thanks again

Great thread, I think I might be going with a Stage 2 lift from Icon on my 07 4Runner. There's a great thread about the 5th gens using Icon, any 4th gen users happy with their set up?

Love my Icon Stage 2. I replaced a set of Radflo's and have also ran Bilsteins with various setups. For me, Icon has been hands down the best. The Icons are a bit stiffer on small bumps (things like expansion joints on the highway) but handle large bumps much better. They offer an overall better and more predictable ride.

Are 5100's longer travel than stock shocks? I'm at 2 1/2" in the rear and stock shocks top out too easily.

Yes they are - the rears I believe are 1" longer than stock.

Tying to lift but need help

Okay so I currently have a 3 inch spacer in the front and in the back I have a 1.5 inch block.. I do not sit level and that is what I'm trying to correct. I would like to get a 6 inch coil over put in the front but I'm not sure what to look at and I just need some ideas and help.

I feel like it is. It sits that inch and a half lower and there isn't many options above the 3inch than a 6inch, if I'm correct.

Well, you could do a smaller rear spacer, which would bring rear done close to level. I could make you a .5" or 1" rear, or any size you want.

I'd like to get rid of the forward rake, basically I want my V8 4WD 4Runner to sit like a stock Tacoma 4x4. I don't plan on buying bigger tires until these wear out, and when I do maybe only an inch taller. Will an inexpensive spacer kit get me there, and will spacer installation require a front end alignment?

Thanks,
DG

Here you go, on sale:

4th gen lift and leveling kits, Burtman Industries

Also, can make ANY SIZE you want. You really don't need an alignment. We always recommend one if you don't know if you are in alignment now, but if your tires are wearing good, I've had no ill effects of not doing.

I have some front FJ coils for sale...cheap. IM me if interested.

Why are you selling? I might be interested..

I'm going to ome 885s for a little less rake and body roll in the front. I'll also be able to lower the coil to gain a little more shock travel. I'm on 896s in the rear already and it's not a well balanced setup and I would not recommend it unless you are towing or carrying a lot of weight 80% of the time.

Great! Is that photo in your profile avatar with the Icon set up? In terms of appearance, that's the approximate amount of height I want my vehicle to have.

At that time I just had the front Icons installed. I had the stock rear air bags adjusted to level out with the front. Here's a current pic with the Icon rear installed. I do have a 1/2" body lift (was on in the other pic as well). I'm now running 265/70/18s which are just under 33" tall. I have it set so the running boards are perfectly level, there is about 1.25" difference in the fender to ground measurements between front and rear.

Spindle Lift

I am preparing to do a MaxTrac Spindle Lift to my 2WD. Along with the spindles I'm going to do 5100's all the way around and 2 Inch All Pro springs in the back. With 285/70/17 KO2's.

Ive searched and searched and found a few different answers can anyone tell me what the exact backspacing on a 03 stock 17 inch Limited wheel?

If what I am thinking is correct my backspacing now is 5.43 (according to an online backspacing calculator) so a 1 inch spacer in the front will bring me to around 4.5 inches which is under the required 4.75 inches to run the lift spindles.

Now because of the spindles .75 inches of added width I would need a 1.75 inch wheel spacer in the back to make everything even.

If anyone sees any problems in this please let me know!
