4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Well I'm looking for more of suspension. My Suspension system now has developed this horrible squeak whenever I go over any kind of bump. I was looking at the front and rear bilstein adjustable springs with the toytec 112-620 coil springs. I wanted to put either 33" BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A Ko2 or BF Goodrich Mud Terrain Km2.

By the way it's a 2004 SR5

Thanks

Just got the t4r back from the 4wheel drive shop. Had 5100s put on as well as the Daystar KT09115BK Comfort Ride 2.5" Strut and Coil Spring Spacer Kit. Gave me 1.75 in the back and 3 up front.

The problem is now my alignment is off whereas before the lift is was laser perfect. The shop is claiming its a 'this is as good as it gets' situation. Why can't the alignment be laser straight again? Would suck to think I paid over 1000 dollars to get lifted a bit only to ruin every set of tires I put on for the next umteen years...

Also, and maybe I just never noticed this before, but with the front end lifted I can see a lot fo stuff I didn't notice before like brake lines, springs, etc. Did they forgot to put some shielding back?

Really? For real? Did you even read anything in this forum?? Ok, blaze over...

First get rid of the damn strut spacer and adjust the perch up on the 5100's..! Spacer=shock damage. Trust me, I did it already...
For 3"and more lift you need uca's to get castor in spec. So your alignment won't be perfect until then. Close though.
Of course you are going to see more! You just lifted the effing thing! I mean come on man! I can see tons more, so I painted it! Check out my build thread, several other guys like me, read the lift info threads, study, prepare, execute.

I have read everything, but apparently you didn't read my post... ;)
I do not have adjustable 5100s, just regular ones, ergo I need spaces or new coils. New coils were too expensive and I found the reviews of the Daystar spacers to be satisfactory. Do you have evidence that good spacers cause shock damage?

Is there, or is there not supposed to be some sort of cover inside the wheel well?

Apparently YOU need to reread your post.... Here's a screen shot to help. Second line, says, I have 5100's...
Edit: 5100's are adjustable. FJ, Tacoma or the 4600 series are not.

Dude, you seem to be a bit behind the curve as there are two different types of 5100s: Adjustable and Non-adjustable. I bought the non-adjustable set here:
Bilstein 5100 Complete SET - Total Automotive Performance - Your Source for Auto Parts and Accessories
I may be, I'm not sure, I've never seen a non-adjustable 5100. The one in your link is adjustable.
Take a pic of your shocks so I can see please. I'm not trying to be a dick, seriously never heard of non-adjustable. Adjustable or the coilover conversion toytec has.

I'll have to get pics later as I am at work, but here is the same non-adjustable shock sold by the same place I just had install them.
Bilstein - 5100 Series Shock Absorber | 4WheelParts.com

Where in my first link do you see they are adjustable?
See those 4 slots towards the bottom of the shock body? A ring goes in there and then that black bottom spring perch slides on over them.
Bottom = 0"
Second =. 85"
Third = 1.75"
Fourth = 2.5"
The only non-adjustable shocks I can find are for the rear as they don't make them for the front.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the 5100 series for any vehicle are adjustable.

Your first link is to the adjustable FRONT 5100 shocks, adjustable by the rings on the shock shaft (Lines on the shock towards the lower part). The second link are the REAR 5100 shocks.

There is no such thing as a non adjustable 5100. Actually the 5100 is just an adjustable version of the 4600. Rears perform exactly the same 5100 fronts are valve differently to accommodate (somewhat) for the different perch hieights.

Next time in stead of being a pompous ass. Look at someone's post count. T-man is clearly a 4runner nerd and knows his parts.

It's 'instead', not 'in stead'.

I have non-adjustable 5100 shocks. Sorry, but your opinion about whether they exist or not is irrelevant.

Either show us the link to them, a picture of them, or some other proof or stfu. Turning into a troll with your ignorance. I searched every site I could find. No 5100 that isn't adjustable anywhere. You were had by your shop... Why didn't you just install them yourself? Pretty easy thing really.
4600=non-adjustable and yellow
5100=adjustable and silver

Fine, fine, I will leave work and crawl under my truck to prove to you rage-a-holics that I have what I said I have. You guys have some serious hostility issues.
Prepare your apology in advance please.

I can already tell you the shocks are NON-ADJUSTABLE and they are Bilstein 5100s and they are silver with blue...

I'll tell you what, if I'm wrong I'll go back and edit every response to you and say "I was wrong, I'm a noob, ccvortex is awesome!"

But, if I'm right, you have to pull them damn spacers out, crank up that adjustable collar, and go wheel the piss out of that thing!
You're lucky my wedding is the day after my buddies that lives down there or I'd come show you how the big boys do it son!

Haha, wow, OK, then they must be adjustable from inside using invisible flanges or something because these shocks are a steel rod sticking out of a silver cylinder and nothing more.

Also, I just called the shop and they confirmed they used the spacers because the shocks were not adjustable.
