Input before I begin my suspension upgrade

Great info on this site. And a shout out to the people who run and maintain the forums here on T4R.org.[emoji481]
I need some input before pulling the trigger on this one. 4Runnah 4x4 V6 2008 Sport XREAS Suspension. I'm not sure but I think I want
Bilstein 6112 coilovers (3rd gen model part#47-260153)
Light Racing UCA
ICON rear shocks & coils w/o res.
It's a DD driving on bad roads and sharp corners. On road driving is the main concern. I don't need to wheel. Some places here are so bad you'd need to kick in 4LO time to time. I'm looking for control, reduced roll and a rear end shock and spring that can match the compression and rebound of the 6112 so I thought of ICON. For the backend I don't usually carry a load.
Need some advice on this. Any suggestions are appreciated.
P.S. Swaybar is new I'll upgrade bushings later. Bought the rig earlier this year.

I see this is your first post. I'm going to try and answer your question, but it has been answered about 82 or 73 times in this thread alone. I will suggest you do a little more digging and ask more detailed questions about your conclusions. This will get you more input, feedback, and assistance from the gurus out here.

This is your first post. This question is easy. Go back to the very first post in here where it gives the breakdown of the common suspension types and brand names. Write it down and start tackling the 3in kits of each brand. Once you've figured out which ones you like based on budget go to the search bar in the FORUM that says "Google custom search". It's almost at the top of the FORUM page.
In your search tackle questions about each suspension kit (youll have a few to choose based on budget) like:
common problems with (name) kit
other mods with 3in lift
3in lift spring rates
On/off road performance with (name of lift kit)
3in lift spring rates with equipment
these suggestions are just to get you on your feet with this project.
You might want to look into a forum website called toyota120.com as well. Lots of guys there with lots of mods as well. Or mix and match components to get the ideal ride.
By then you would have narrowed your choices to your top 3 picks. Best of luck!!

Stonger Air Bags??
Hello,
I have installed the 'Coil Rite' bags with compressor and self leveling sensor. It works great with small loads.
I tow a large tandem trailer and get up to the max tow capacity on my 2003 4R Limited 2WD (7500#) with a pretty high tongue weight. (near max most of the time). I did this with the stock springs and shocks for a few years, until I got tired of looking up at the sky while towing... LOL.
I have blown the right air bag twice. Once was my fault as the total weight (500# each) was exceeded. (I found this out by getting a tongue scale and measuring) I re-balanced the trailer contents to get the tongue weight under max. But blew a new bag again while backing the trailer up a dock ramp.
Is there anything with stronger air bags that will work on the 4R? I have seen the Firestone 'Ride Rite' 2407 for the Prerunner 2WD that goes up to 5,000#. Any thought on modifying that to work on the 4-Runner? Or are there any other options?

Hmm, what about heavy duty coils like ome? I mean the real heavy duty ones.

3" Ultimate Toytec Lift Kit
Just finished installing my Toytec 3" kit. So far I'm really happy with the quality, instructions, and ease of installation.
Got some new Dynapro ATM's in the trunk and should be on tomorrow.
As of right now I actually gained 4" total lift but I'm hoping once the springs settle in it should drop down.

I didn't want to go with heavy coils, as I only tow about 50% of the time, and felt the ride would be too harsh without the load.
I tows just fine, as long as I have the weight distributed in the trailer properly.
I don't like to get above 65mph when fully loaded though.
Peoples' eyes bug out when I roll up with the rig.
"You can tow that with a 4 Runner?!!!"
Now, it does drop my gas mileage from 20mpg to 10mpg...especially if there are hills.
I love screaming past people with my trailer on! Exhaust screaming, 35's, and I'm just plowing ahead like it ain't no thang! Lmao

With you towing half the time, should consider changing from stock coils. Do understand not wanting OME heavies as you have no extra weight added to your ride.
Another thing you might try to do also, is drop your air bags before going into loading docks, as some have a serious drop/dip to them and level out at the bottom. Yeah, I drive semi's at times and deal with them docks also.

For sure at 3.5" or higher. But really, it depends on the vehicle, it'll be slightly different every time. I have a 3" lift on mine, and I don't think I plan to replace my UCAs anytime soon. You will get the wandering (again, how noticeable it is will be different per vehicle) when braking, or at speed. It's hard to describe, but you know what it is once you get there.
After 5000 miles on my lift, I don't really see the point. The wandering is pretty unnoticeable for me.

They ride pretty great. I did have my rear shock's stud shear off after doing some light off roading. Might have been a dud though.

They suck, will get you by though.

I've been reading lately that a lot of guys hate the 5100's but after I installed them on my 4Runner with 190000 miles and original shocks, they are great. Keep in mind I have 2w drive and barley romp my Runner and these guys who complain and say they suck are crazy 4wheelin maniacs 
But don't take it from me.....the guy who wanted to teach his son how to change his oil in his 07 FJ 2wheel yesterday and couldn't fit under the front of car, so snuck under the drivers side and drained his transmission pan instead....I've never been more embarrassed and nervous in my life. heading home from the dealer now with new fluid and hoping to get this right.
