4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

If youre going with

Ive done a lot of research on this one lately, and just saw the install on a 5th gen. I think ive decided to go with 5100s all the way around. OME 2889 in the rear and 2884 in the front. Should net around 2 inches int he rear and 2 in the front depending on what 5100 setting i go with. a pair of OME is about 167 in most places. Reach out to Apex Overland for some help though he knows more than I do

OME coils you might consider using the corresponding OME struts and shocks. The reason is that the 5100 damping and OME spring rates are so far apart that the quality of the ride suffers as a result. Also, depending on the amount your current suspension has sagged over the years chances are that you will yield more than a prescribed 2"s of lift on either end.

If youre convinced to go the 5100 route consider the wheelers off road relabeled eibach T1 and T12 coils. They would be a better match or 6112/5160 and your choice of rear coils depending on the budget.

Cool, thanks for the recommendation and contact. Do those OMEs require a spacer in the rear to level things out? Definitely want a totally "flat" setup.

My plans, at least from a suspension standpoint:

- new shocks, springs, with about a 1.5-2" lift
- have the stock 18" wheels powder coated black
- add some Spidertrack spacers for a little wider stance

(I recently put spacers on my Mustang after springs, holy smokes, it looks fantastic).

I can make any size front or rear spacer you may need. Let me know.

Also, have the spidertrax in stock, blue or black:

New member and can't make any posts, so I thought I'd throw this out there until i have enough to post a thread.

Basically, I have 07 sport 2WD sport with XREAS.....ive decided to go with a daystar 2.5/1.5.....but really dont want to pay a shop to do it as I want to learn the process.

Wondering if anyone in the OC has done this lift with XREAS and would like to lend a hand. Hell, if a couple people are interested we can even have a wrench party/OC meet at my pad. I know its a long shot but oh well.

Congrats. You need to be careful with some kits out there... I had a guy that had the 2.5" and the front shrunk/compressed down to 2" in a little over a year or so. I then had to sell him the cornfed 3/2 kit cause he was rubbing on his larger tires. Let me know if you need anything.... Have a sale going too:

If you guys can't find used fj coils got to wheelers offroad or toytec and buy new coils there. Will be much better quality and not sag.
Also, mall crawling you'll be fine with Bilsteins. If you get serious then go to OME or better. Don't pair Bilsteins and OME, Bilsteins can't handle that. And if you are going to a 34" tire or bigger skip the Bilsteins as they can't keep up.

Whoa thanks tman that clears up alot

Np. I bought fj coils from the junkyard for $50, they gave me some lift cause my stock coils were shot, but nothing to write home about. One of these days, full metal tech setup, or full custom!

Comparing 07-2010 rear Moog FJ coils (part 81081) to my 2008 SR5 V6 stock coils. How much height difference would you say?

*Edited* nevermind. I found this link after modding my search criteria. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/162125-coil-rates-oem-4runner-oem-fj-moog-others.html

The Moog FJ coils would be too much. But the OEM FJ's would be perfect according to that graph. I feel like I need just a touch more in the rear. (hey now!)

I was actually looking at the Eibach coils today, and wondering how they were

Well if you look closer the moog coil rate is lower. You won't get more lift than about 1/2". You will for a couple weeks, but that's it.
For the money, go one of the aftermarket lift coils. Better ride, better control, longer lasting. Plus you won't need spacers!

Thanks, Got it! Yeah I'm still learning all this stuff with the trucks and OEM vs Aftermarket springs. The wrenching part isn't an issue, it's getting the smarts on which "real-lift" I'm going to run with. The spacers are my first ever attempt at raising any of my vehicles. It was an affordable way to learn a lot, and gain confidence when I save up for doing the "real-lift" when I finally figure out which way I'm going to go.

Thanks for the reply t-man

Needing a little advice on setup. 04 Ltd 4wd V8 w/ xreas. Wanting to do approx. 3/2 lift and stiffen the suspension a little for towing. Pulling a camper at about 225lbs tongue weight and adding the clearance for the light 4wheeling adventures.
I was thinking:
-moog front and rear coils for t4r
-spacer lift
-spidertrax wheel spacers.
-I would like to keep the xreas as it seems to be in pretty good shape, but I wouldnt be totally opposed to 5100's later down the line.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, our T4R is mostly an urban assault vehicle, inner-town and highway miles, the occasional offroad around the beaches, I like the clearance for flooding (we're on the Florida coast), and knowing it can (and has!) crawled over trees in the road. We also occasionally tow, usually under about 3500 lbs.

I'm currently still running the 18" LTD wheels, the paint is peeling, but I think vs. an aftermarket wheel, I'll just get these PC'ed, so that means sticking with 265/60-18s.

So I would like a little lift for fun(even the wife digs on it), good road manners, at least stock levels of offroad performance - so that's my goals, and it sounds like the 5100s would be a good starting place.

They'll work for that. Things that seem to kill them is aftermarket springs with higher spring rates, overextending, and heavy offroad use.... I don't know who would do that last one.....

Gentlemen,

I have a 08 4runner limited with XREAS. I would like to put a small lift maybe 2-2.5"

If cost was not a factor, only ride quality.

What system or shock/lift combo would most closely duplicate the XREAS ride?

Is this even possible?

you might consider using spacers to achieve the lift leaving XREAS intact.
