4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Hey, I'm new to the forums, long time lurker. I just installed 2016 Tacoma trd fronts on my 2007 4Runner. Now I need to install the rears, and I know the rear bushing diameter is smaller on the Tacoma than the 4Runner. I can't find any info, OEM or aftermarket on the rear shock mount bushing for the 4Runner. I've used the search function on this forum, called the local toyota dealer, and went to the local 4wd shop. I know I could just pop the old bushings out from my rears and use them, but I'm doing this in my garage and don't want to get snagged up just in case I can't press them in. Can anyone lead me in the right direction toward finding the correct rear shock mount bushing? TIA

I will try and dig out the thread that has the part number but I believe its just the energy suspension brand bushing that is made for the stock 4runner.

Did you run into any issues with the 2016 TRD strut? How much lift did it give you?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Gave me roughly 2" up front, compared to the Kyb excels that were on there when I got it. With 265/65r17's I'm sitting at 36" +/- 1/8" at all 4 corners

Do you mean stock SR5 shocks? If so, I've also been wanting to hear why everyone immediately tries something other than Toyota factory shocks if a T4R is 98% highway, 2% dirt road, with no extreme wheeling.

There's not much out there about swapping XREAS for SR5 shocks...(yes, I did search, numerous times).

IMHO there is a lot of unintentional disinformation about the results of shock/strut changes when the real driving is 95% street. I ditched the stock SR5 shocks [which do not leak - and are for sale...] mainly due to the exagerrated end-to-end dipping/diving/rocking. I installed the Bilstein 5100's that many reco, setting the front on the 0.85" clip, rears at zero. we have here a lot of rough two-lane backroads which I use. The Bilsteins feel very similar to the stockers to me - the idea of "harsh" or "stiff" never entered my mind - they are soft, compliant, but mainly do cut down the extent of that dive & dip motion. if you think in terms of a see-saw's range of motion - the Bilstein's cut that range by 20% or so and without the sharp 'bottoming' feel that the stockers had, especially on the front. To me, my opinion only, the stockers are too light for the work. I can't imagine carrying 4 passengers or a load of junk on the stockers and being happy anywhere but the smoothest of smooth pavements

OK, our hauling is generally pretty lightweight, < 400lbs passenger weight with at the most a few suitcases and a cooler for a weekend getaway, < 200lbs, maybe 240-ish on a major trip. 90% of the time nothing being hauled.

It looks like I'm going with this setup:

COILS
Wheeler's T12 Rear
Old Man Emu 2884 Front

SHOCKS
Bilstein 5100 Rear
Bilstein 5100 Height Adjustable Front

It's my understanding that will ride pretty terrific for about on-road use, accommodate without much sagging our typical "max hauling" (and for short, much bigger hauling we'll just have some rear sag/compression).

The 1884 indicates 1.5 - 1.7" lift, the T12 1.5", I definitely want at the very least level, but would prefer a touch of front rake (i.e., front slightly lower like stock).

Side note: for looks/stance, I'm also going to add some 1.25" spacers (I'd guess Spidertrax or Trailgear) with our OEM 18" Limited wheels (going to refurb the finish, maybe go with black semi-gloss powder coat).

Another suggestion...

I'd suggest going with the T1 coil up front paired with the T12 in back if youre using 5100s. Mixing Bilstein and OME stuff "works" ok but the T1 would work alot better. 5100s are valved to work with OE spring rates and the OME springs are valved to work with OME struts/shocks. The T1 and T12s should yeild you around 2". Another option is the Slee off road OME low lift which uses only OME suspension components and yeilds around 2"s of lift. The lift amounts youve quoted dont account for suspension sag over the 8 years since the truck was new.

Just bought my first 4Runner as a 3rd vehicle. I've been searching youtube for ideas on a suspension lift. I've seen many OME lifts performed. I'm not familiar with the "T" line of products that you are referring to. Who is this and what makes it better than OME lifts.

Thanks!

Pretty overwhelming options for the 4Runner line. I'm looking for a 2" suspension lift for a daily, mostly street driven 4Runner. It will see occasional off-road use but the majority of the time it will be on the highway. Any suggestions for a 2" lift that gives decent on-road stability and ride quality?

Thanks!

Is a good quality lift w/o requiring any additional parts

I currently have a 05 4Runner sr5 4wd. Putting 265/70-17 tires on, spidertrax spacers, and a 3/2 supreme suspension lift. Going to put kyg shocks and struts on all the way around since my suspensions 12 years old. Not looking to put 5100s on just because it's super expensive lol my question is, what should I do about springs?
I've read a little about moog 4runner 81045(rear springs) and 81090(front 4wd) and I've seen a lot of people saying they don't seat/fit well. So should I go with fj cruiser springs-moog 81081(rear) and 81108(front)? Any reviews on these? Are they going to fit without additional suspensionparts?

How much lift do you want to get? We have several spring options and they fit with OE struts or aftermarket too.

Need some help guys. Just recently had my buddies shop install a 2.5/1.5 daystar on XREAS suspension. I made sure they didn't disconnect the XREAS lines. Also added 265/70/16 cooper at3 and did an alignment.

My problem is..... the truck ever so slightly fades to the right now. It's not a strong pull at all, but it's bugging me. I took it back in and they did another alignment but it's still pulling a bit.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Maybe im being too anal? Just wondering if there's something I can look into instead going back to the shop again.

Did they give you the before/after tech sheet?

If so post it up if you can. Those with more knowledge about alignments can give you some pointers..

Tacoma UCA's

Does anybody know if OEM Tacoma UCA's can/should be used on 4th gen 4runners? Or if there is any benefit in lift potential?

My buddy is replacing his 2013 TRD Tacoma's suspension and offered me all his old parts for free. My plan, as of now, is to use his TRD springs with my Bilstein 5100s, and possibly purchase aftermarket UCA's if the ride is subpar. However, seeing as his UCA's are in far better shape than my 11 year old rusted set, I had hoped (not optimistically) that I could just switch those out as well.

I've searched far and wide for an answer on Toyota UCA compatibility and have found no answers. Anyone have any ideas??

I'm using an UCA from a 2012 FJC without issues. The compatibility answer came from a typical Toyota parts website; just compared part numbers of the the FJC and a 4th gen T4R. FYI, the LCA isn't compatible unfortunately.

Newb here looking to get some 5100s all around

I'm looking for the best deal on a set of 5100s for my '03 sr5 4wd t4r that is just stock suspension at the moment. I hope to put on some 255 or 265 / 70 or 75 r17 tires in the near future and will need the suspension... after spending weeks pouring over albums on the forum I've decided against spacers and going straight to building up a custom suspension.

I will be looking to get FJ springs (or better if I can budget) soon, but wanted to start with 5100s and build from there.

Are these the correct part numbers I should be looking for?
24-239370 - front adjustable 5100
33-187174 - rear 5100

[shockwarehouse.com](Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - KONI Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com) has a set for $378.66 + free shipping.... can i beat that deal?

Looks about right...price wise those can be had at eba* for around 350 if bought separately.
