4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Lift kit help

Hi everyone. I tried searching for this but I saw some conflicting info so I thought I would try to get some tips here. I'm about to install a lift kit on my '04 V6 SR5 4WD and am trying to figure out how exactly to set it up.

My new setup will be:
Front: Bilstein 5100 with Toytec/Eibach 112620 coils
Rear: Bilstein 5100 with Toytec Superflex 2" coils
Single 1/4" spacer

What setting should I use on the Bilsteins to get a 3/2 lift? I see some people saying the 112620 only give a 1.6" lift while others say it is closer to 2-2.5" lift.
Also, my front end is level but my rear is 1/2" higher on the passenger side. Where should I put the 1/4" spacer? Seems like I should place it on the driver's side rear but most threads seem to indicate it should go in the driver's side front.
Thanks for any input!

What I've read, could be wrong, is that you don't want to adjust the bilsteins with coils that are adding lift. Leave the bilsteins at 0. For the spacers I'm assuming you're talking about the drivers side say. You will need spacers for the front and rear. Pretty sure they are 10mm spacers. Search the forum as there is a ton of info on this topic.

I just got a response back from Toytec and they're stating the Toytec/Eibach 112620 coils will give a 4th gen a 2.5" lift so I guess you're right about leaving the Bilsteins at the bottom setting. I couldn't find anything about putting spacers on both the front and back though. Seems like most people just put one in the front or back.

Hi I have an 05 4Runner V8 RWD with 180k miles w XREAS which I’m gonna take out. I’ve been doing some reading and I’m ready to pull the trigger on it I just need some input to see if I’m ordering the right things.

I don’t do any off roading. I just know the shocks are busted and I need to change it. Also to level the ride. Here’s what I got so far

-Bilstein 5100 front and back
-Moog 81090 springs in front. Shocks Set to .85
-Keep rear springs stock
-KYB SM5640 mount kit

Any input is much appreciated. Thanks

Has anyone put TRD Pro take offs on a 4th gen. What problems or fitment will I run into and what to mod. All I’ve been told about is the front shock bushing need grinding, any others before I get started?

I wouldnt pair a set of coils with 180k with new ones. The truck will ride really nice..

Main Line Overland has a brand new GTS suspension option - any opinions/thoughts on them? Looks like they are all 2" full kits.

No idea what really differentiates them, but I think MLO has a decent rep overall.

Having never heard of GTS, I would do some more digging. Who makes them, etc?

But you can get OME for less, I would go with that.

4RUNNER OME NITROCHARGER SPORT Mid-Firm Susp. OME-4RUN-4GG

Or Dobinsons

After reading hundreds of posts on these forums I feel like I'm starting to narrow things down. Right now, I'm looking at two options and was curious if anyone had any onions.

My vehicle is mostly a daily driver, with some off-road during hunting seasons. My wife would appreciate it if I kept things comfortable. I'm also looking to get rid of my 2.5/1.5 spacer lift but keep the height the same.

Thoughts on Bilstein 6112 paired with Icon 2.0's and Icon 2 inch lift springs
vs.
Dobinson setup with their gas shocks and standard weight springs front and back?

Prices seem to be in the ballpark of each other.

Is ordering a spring isolator necessary?

Hi, I’m about to install Bilstein 5100’s all around with OME 884 up front and Wheelers T12’s in rear. Do I need to also purchase new spring isolators? I think I’ve heard of people using their old ones but I’ not 100%. My suspension has 270k on it

For the front? I bought new ones since mine were cracked.

man there are so many combinations of suspension that it makes my head spin. I have a simple question (hopefully)

How much do I need to do to my 'lift' in order to fit 17" TRD wheels and KO2 tires in roughly 265/70R17. Will this fit on stock shocks and springs without rubbing? Can I go a bigger size? I do not want to have to modify anything to install new springs, so I want something that will be 'plug and play'. I'd prefer to improve the ride quality as opposed to the opposite.

I have a 2006 SRS V6 w/115k

Looking for thoughts on the following on an 05 SR5 V6, 145k:

-KYB shock/springs up front
-KYB shocks rear
-Daystar 1"/1.5"

Thinking about going from the 17" factory wheels to 16" for aesthetics and a "more rubber" look with new tires. Do you guys think 265 75 16s will rub? Does anyone have pics of a similar setup?

I'm gonna try again and hope that I can get some feedback. I have 100% stock 2006 V6 115k and I want to get it a little more aggressive. I have read literally hundreds of pages of other threads on lifts, tires, etc...but I still cant find the answer to some of my questions.

When my tires need replacing, I want to get something a bit more aggressive that are still fine for 95% normal city/highway driving. It seems that the KO2 tires are getting some love along with several others (General Grabber, Cooper Discoverer, Geolandar, etc..).

Question 1: Can I add KO2 in 265/70/17 without doing any modifications to stock (assume stock 17" wheels)?
Answer 1: I assume 'NO'

Question 2: What is the minimum I need to do in order to not rub with the KO2 in 265/70/17? Can I just add 5100 all around without springs? If I also need springs, I want springs that will fit stock without modifying anything on the truck (I have read that the FJ springs require some mods to fit properly). If I do the 5100 all around can I go larger than 265/70/17?
Answer 2: PLEASE HELP

Question 3: Is it assumed that there will be more wear and tear and suspension issues when lifting to accommodate the bigger/fatter tires?
Answer 3: PLEASE HELP

Question 4: Is there a better aggressive looking tire than the KO2 if most of my driving is on normal roads? I want the look and ability of offroad, but still drive-able and will last with normal driving
Answer 4: PLEASE HELP

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance

1. I’ve read that the 265/70 KO2’s on a stock 4R rub a little bit but I cannot say that withpersonal experience, just from things I’ve read.

2. Minimum requirement for them to fit? My guess is some trimming, which shouldn’t be much. I have 285/65r18’s with a 3” lift on my 4R and the trimming isn’t even noticeable unless you look inside the wheel well.

3. From my experience and what I’ve read, wear is always more prominent when lifting a vehicle. (Depending on the condition and/or make of your vehicles current parts) parts can fail or wear down quicker.

4. There are a lot of good looking tires out there. I really like Nitto’s, but they are expensive and I’ve heard mixed opinions about them. Toyo’s Open Country M/T’s are nice with an aggressive looking sidewall but would you need mud terrains for mainly a D.D. vehicle? I have Toyo Open Country AT2 xtremes, and I absolutely love them. Hardly any drone, great in rain, snow, mud, on gravel roads. The traction is really nice. They definitely help my 2wd 4r not get stuck sometimes when I’m out in the woods.

Not a lot of ways you can go wrong with most tires. I’m not an expert by any means for this stuff so take what I said with a grain of salt haha hopefully someone can confirm what I said, or correct it and lead you in the right direction! Best of luck!

thanks bomb venture, I appreciate the time to reply...

1. thanks
2. I'd rather 5100's then trimming/cutting anything as Id rather spend money then cut anything
3. This scares me a little bit. I was hoping 5100s and bigger tires would not really cause more wear, especially since offroading is almost non-existent
4. I don't "need" mud terrains, I want a more aggressive look with decent performance on regular roads

Thanks again

Anytime! I’m glad to help even in the slightest if I can. I’m still learning the ropes as well.

Everything I’ve read on the 5100’s are great. I actually don’t see any problem with getting some in all 4 corners. You should be able to fit a 265/70 just fine. They might have to be set to 1” or whatever but I don’t see why it wouldn’t fit especially with that size of tire.

As for wear, you really only have to worry about this with the bigger lifts/tires. All car parts wear but if you’re sitting close to stock, things won’t wear out as fast.

Taking the below grid into account from the firs thread, are the following statements true:

1. any tire in 265/65/17 will fit on stock suspension without mod/trim/etc (i.e. KO2)
2. There is not much value from a tire sizing standpoint to go from 1/0 to 2/1
3. Nobody really runs 275/65/17
4. the 265/70/17 on the 1/0 does not include the 'larger' brand tires like KO2 and one would need to move up to the 2/1 to fit the 'larger' type tires in that size
5. If looking to get a lift that will support any 265/65R17 or 265/70R17 without trimming or cutting and that looks like a 2/1 lift would allow for that.

Now to figure out what combo yields that type of lift with similar ride quality (not too stiff, not too soft)

Thoughts on this setup if looking for similar ride quality as stock (of better), primarily normal roads, want to fit any aggressive tire I want in the sizes listed above, not be too much of a lift where I have to consider other suspension changes to avoid added wear and tear and finally not an insane amount of wheel well gap as I want enough lift to fit the tires not to drive through 3ft of water? I am OK with slight rake and I think the 884 will level out with rear plus 1/2" so there will still be some rake with the toytec in the rear but the stiffness of the OME on the rear scare me.

5100's all around
OME 884 - Front
Toytec Superflex - Rear

The OME rear seem too stuff for normal driving and will reduce ride quality
The Toytec fronts could be an option, but I didnt see anything on page1 of the suspense thread for Toytec fronts.

I'm starting to see that 5100/OME is not a good combo, anybody have that setup and comments?

I have the OME 2895 in the rear and they ride just fine with the 5100,like an SUV should. IMHO. I have them paired with Toytec 521600 HD springs with 5100's on the bottom setting.
