4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I'm starting to see that 5100/OME is not a good combo, anybody have that setup and comments?

I'm in the same boat as you - I have a V6 and I'm hemming and hawing about what to do when the time comes for new tires. So take this with a grain of salt...

I've seen exactly the opposite. My impression has been that folks love the 5100/OME combo, and that's actually what I'm leaning toward doing when the time comes.

Best of luck with your decision!

5100/OME springs is a good combo, as long as you don't go past the 2nd clip which adds too much preload for a harsh ride. Ideally you'd run the spring of choice on the lowest clip- let the spring set your ride height and not the shock adjustments.

I dont like the 40% spring rate increase of the 895's over the OME springs and don't really want too harsh of a ride. I definitely think the 5100's just trying to nail down the springs and I dont want a huge lift, just want to be able to fit more aggressive tires like the KO2 or similar.

This may have already been asked and answered but I don’t have time to read 185 pages.

I am starting to get ready for a proper lift (currently running spacer.)
I am bouncing back and forth between Bilstein 6112/5160 or going full out with Fox (debating 2.0 vs 2.5 there too.)

I don’t do any heavy wheeling yet but I would like the opportunity to go on some local trail rides and possible grow into it heavier stuff.
My question is does anyone know what the recommended service/rebuild intervals for the Fox (or ICON.). Trying to figure out if it would be worth it to save some more money initially for the Fox but I’m not too keen on those If the service interval is short. I use this vehicle as my DD and put probably about 20,000 miles on a year (pavement and fire roads). Does anyone know what the rough service and rebuild intervals are for the premium shock with light wheeling? Or any personal experience with them?

Thanks

Hey all,
So I currently have OME 885/895 spring combos, but my weight load isn't nearly as heavy as I originally anticipated, and the spring rate is way higher on the 895s than I'd like. I want something closer to stock. Right now too, the 895s are giving me a solid rake. So I want something that'll give me less lift to even out.

Basically, it looks like my options would be Toytec Superflex RCC2.0s, Sway-a-way 1.5", or Icon 2".

I'm thinking either Superflex or SAW. Any one with those have a recommendation?

Fitment Combos

OK, so I have spent about 40-60hrs reading almost every page of the suspension and other threads and have gained a wealth of knowledge about lifting my 06. Bottom line is that I want to know what is the consensus better setup for lifting, ride quality, reliability, etc...Good or bad, I think I am going 5100's all around. I don't offroad, but will not rule out going on a guided mud trail or something, but nothing too stressing on the vehicle. 2006 SR5 115k v6 bull bar and 3rd row seats for weight additions.

Option1: 5100s with wheelers T1 (approx 1.75")/T12 (approx 1.5")
Option2: 5100s with OME 885 front and superflex rear.

I have seen the following combos on the various boards:
Brand Size Lift User
BFG KO2 275/70/17 5100, OME 970mtnrunner
BFG KO2 265/70/17 5100/T1-T12 MRPink
BFG KO2 265/70/17 5100/T1-T12 Mizak82
BFG KO2 275/70/17 5100/OME-Toytec tooltime19
Toyo Open Country A/T 285/70/17 5100/OME jblinga

Question1: Anyone have an opinion on whether wheelers T1/T12 with 5100s and NOTHING ELSE will fit without cutting/trimming anything KO2 or similar in:
275/70/17 - KO2 is slightly bigger than the suggested 32.2x10.8 for 3/2 lifts - seems out of my fitment
275/65/17 - Not listed in the fitment sticky
265/70/17 - Looks like this is a good fit for 2/1
255/75/17 - Looks like this is a good fit for 2/1

Question2: Is the above T1/T12 enough to be considered a 2/1 lift, maybe put the front bilsteins at .85?

Question3: Does it pay to have the coils/shocks pre-assembled for almost $100 if offered?

Hoping to hear from tman and some others....I promise, I have done my homework but cant find the exact answers to the above.

1. I have 5100's with T1/T12 and fit 265/70/17 Duratracs on an '06 SE, no top end or hub spacers and was coming from a very tired X-reas w/ 230k. Truck has about 240k now and looking around the wheel well I cant see any spots where it might be rubbing. I love the setup and use it about the same way you plan to.

2. Yes, IMO.

2011 FJ to 05 4runner

Hey everyone, I need some help with my new rig. I just bought a 2005 4runner limited v6 and the suspension needs to be replaced. I bought a stock suspension from a 2011 FJ cruiser with ~20k miles on it. I've heard that the springs are a direct fit but some modification needs to be done to the struts in order to fit. Does anyone know what modifications need to be done in order to run this setup on my runner??

Also, I want to put pair this with the daystar 2.5/1.5 kit but don't know which set to purchase (FJ or 4runner daystar kit)??

Here is a picture of what i bought for reference. Any input is greatly appreciated as I'd like to get the ball rolling asap. Thanks!

$100 seems high to get the coils installed on the shock, I think I paid a guy $60. Just call around to some small shops and haggle. It is worth it and will save you a bunch of time when doing the install.

thanks for the pics and they look good. Seems like more wheel well than I am looking for....you have the bilsteins on 0 setting and no other lift components? I wasn't expecting it to be that much higher than the wheels (rear specifically). Maybe a side view will offer a different perspective, but do it at your leisure :-)

Bilsteins are at 0, no other lift components. Might just be the angle of the pic, when I get a chance for a side shot from eye level ill post it. Still considering installing spidertrax kit, might throw em on tonight for comparison.

thanks for helping me out here. The key for me (as embarrassing as it may be) is that I am looking for a lift for purely mounting bigger tires and having a better stance appearance. More bark then bite so to speak. I don't need to have the highest 4runner on the road, but I want bigger tires that reasonably fill the wheel wells without looking like I am preparing for a flood.

Most places (Wheelers, Bilstein Lifts, Etc.) include new top hats, usually the good KYB or MOOG ones.

I've been calling around for labor install prices on my lift components and getting all kinds of quotes. One shop quoted me $800 without alignment, another 4x4 shop quoted me $1000 with alignment. These both seem pretty pretty high for just labor but I could be wrong?

My lift is 5100's, wheelers T1/T12 coils, KYB shock mounts, SPC UCA's, new front/rear end links.

This seems way to high. I'm getting my shocks, coils, alignment, new SS brake lines, calipers and new rear brakes with rotors for 950. I'd keep checking around. I'm going to a smaller shop that's been around for years and have always done a great job.

some times

it takes some of the sting out if you assemble the struts yourself. With the newer spring compressors that lock onto the coils its pretty fail safe.

Do you have the space to do any of the work yourself? I have worked my neighbor that has a shop in Oakland.

Need Help!!

I have a 2008 T4R SR5. Everything is currently stock on it. I am looking to do a lift since I really need to replace the basic stuff since it has 151,000 miles. I also want to do new rims and some beefier looking tires. I have looked and really like the XD775 Rockstar rims. I also like the look of the BFG A/T tires. I was looking at trying to go ahead and do a Toytec Ultimate 3" lift kit package since I believe that everything's included. However, I would like to know what size rims and tires would work with this without cutting a bunch of stuff.....I really do not for the life of me understand what size to get, offset etc to fit these BFG tires.
