I would, Its easier to do the suspension stuff with them disconnected anyway. I went with the Skyjacker FJ links in the rear and some new stock ones for the front.

My measurement.

Stock OEM T4R V6
Driver: 13 1/2" long, 16mm thick, 8.4lbs, 7 coils.
Passenger: 13 1/4" long, 15mm thick, 6.4lbs, 6 coils.

MOOG FJ
Driver: 14 7/8" long, 17mm thick, 15.1lbs, 10 coils.
Passenger: 14 1/4" long, 17mm thick, 15lbs, 10 coils.

OME 2886
Driver: 16" long, 17.8mm thick, 13.1lbs, 10 coils.
Passenger: 15 7/8" long, 17.5mm thick, 13lbs, 10 coils.

Thanks. I'm really curious about O.E. Toyota parts because I just want a small bit of lift and FJC parts seem to be the answer.

Quick question -- thinking about doing a 1.5-2" leveling/lift kit. I have never done suspension work in my life, I've only done engine repairs and never even a brake job.

That said, does anyone have a guess how long it will take me to install the leveling kit? I am going to check if I have XREAS today, and I assume that will factor into the amount of time.

Also, does anyone know how many labor hours a shop would typically charge to install a leveling kit?

Thanks!

edit: I see one of the only local 4x4 shops offers a leveling/lift kit for $310+ which includes alignment.

What shop (I'm in KC)? If you go this route, let us know how it goes, though if you have XREAS, that price will no doubt go up.

Just checked and yep, XREAS :(

It's a shop in Topeka called Expert Offroad. If there were better deals/service to be had, I would definitely go to KC as I'm there sometimes anyway.

You can easily do one of our leveling kit and it WILL WORK with XREAS. The instructions are also specific with xreas and it's not bad at all. I can explain this more if it's easier, call or text me at 717-319-2100. We originally designed this kit off of an Xreas 4Runner.

I can also do any size you want, and if you do and front/rear, the driver side rear spacer is made thicker to fix the driver side lean these trucks have. So that means the truck will be more level side to side than it is now. ALso, these will never SAG like some of the others kits out there do, where you can lose your lift over time.

Here is the 8p page post with a slew of photos on just about every model 4Runner there is:

If you do have a shop do it, I'd love to know exactly how much they charged you. I am leaning towards having someone else do my install because I have no real experience, and my 4Runner is my only vehicle, so it being out of commission for a while is not an option. I'm going to get some estimates next week, but I'd like to be able to say "that seems like way too much" if they quote me, well, way too much.

Called around to all the offload places and the variance in price blew my mind. ETA told me $1400 including alignment, (keep in mind im supplying all my own parts) a local family friend told me $800 including alignment and state inspection.
Pungo Offroad which is kinda far said $600 for all the front work( plus alignment) and then a Big Als thats by my work told me $535 out the door for the whole front including state inspection.

So im going with the last one Saturday morning and then doing the back springs and shocks myself sunday morning and then getting it aligned either monday or tuesday

FYI I got a quote, I believe they wanted like $510 to do it that included alignment and the Daystar leveling kit (front and rear).

I'm just gonna have to do it myself

Check out either 4WheelParts, Chux Trux, or Adventure Motors. These are all in the KC area.

Spacer install shouldn't run that much IMO.

Thanks for the recommendations. I see adventure-motors is in KC too, an overlanding outfitter place. I imagine their prices will be on the high side.

The more I look at options though, the more I'm leaning towards just doing Bilstein 5100's front and rear and getting rid of the X-REAS. Is there a good post showing the pros and cons of something like Bilstein 5100's vs. a full OME lift?

I'm getting my UCAs + front spacers + alignment by Adventure-Motors, he quoted me $425. Seems about reasonable to me. I'd expect you to pay roughly the same for an all around spacer lift (replace the UCA labor with rear spacer labor). Might even be cheaper.

As someone who has had both setups, I wholeheartedly recommend the 5100s. Get rid of XREAS, especially if it's blown. The 5100s are comfortable for a stock-ish ride, but you still feel the road more than stock. You will ****ing feel everything with the OME lift. It is HARSH on-road, because the shocks are valved stiffer plus the setup is designed for a continuous weight load. If you're not constantly carrying 200lbs in the back or towing, I do not recommend this setup.

That said, OME is amazing offroad. Just when you spend majority of your time on the road rather than off of it, OME causes some literal headaches.

Awesome, let us know how it goes with Adventure - seems like a great local shop that specializes on Toyotas.

I'm kind of in the same boat with an aging XREAS system (which I actually like). Will probably go with FJ springs in the back, OME 886 springs up front (will eventually swap the front bumper for an ARB) and 5100s.
