[2016 4Runner SR5]

We designed the 4th gens kit off an Xreas 4Runner when they first came out. It will work with Xtreas no issue. The instructions are also specific for Xreas and explains what to do different, and you don't disconnect any lines.



Note: the driver side rear spacer is made thicker, which fixes the driver side lean that all these trucks have. After installed the rear will also be level, which most don't always know.

Hey everyone - longtime car aficionado - first time 4Runner owner. Bought an 06 Sport Edition V8 with 67K miles on it. Towed our Gambler 500 car (98 Impreza wagon w/ 3" lift thanks to swapped Forrester suspension) via a U-Haul trailer. Turns out, I'm pretty sure I exceeded the tongue weight and now my shocks are shot (I have XREAS). Before sinking $1200-$1500 in to either an OME or Toytec Boss Lift Kit - I'd like to replace with the OEM X-REAS system - my X-REAS system is still in tact - but the shocks are definitely done. Anyone out there have this setup sitting around they would like to find an excellent home for? I'm located in Canton, OH.

You're going to have a tough time finding anyone with the XREAS shocks in an usable condition.

Also, you sure you hit the tow weight? You should be able to tow 7000lbs no problem.

I didn't even come close - trailer was 2K and the car was just under 3K. This was immediately taken after I hooked it up.

Not according to U-Haul. Tires had to be up against the stops so the tire straps could secure properly. Do I agree with the design? Hell no. Did I want to invent my own securement system for 1400 miles of towing? No.

I made the executive decision to tow it according to instructions on the trailer. Just will never rent a U-Haul trailer again.

I bought a 2009 Urban Runner, that is about 1200 miles from anything urban living in kodiak. Anyway, with the XREAS system I’m wondering if anyone has gotten crafty and tried to tap into some beefy shocks and reuse exsisting plumbing? It could be a costly venture but it would be a cool application if it worked.

I have a 2009 w 94k miles. I like the ride and how XREAS works but I need to replace my cv’s and would really like to lift it. This is my first ifs vehicle. I’ve owned several land cruisers and rebuilt all the axles on them and put suspension lifts on them. I’ve never thought about spacers. Is the spacer option just to get around the XREAS issue? And when you lift these do you have to consider longer axles or just the extension boots?

I’ve sold a slew of these for xreas trucks. Mainly because we it was first designed the kit was designed off an xreas 4runner. Been selling that list since late 2005. Some people like the xreas option and don’t want to remove it. If you want to keep it this is very inexpensive way to lift and level it. If you don’t want xreas anymore you can gut everything and do all new shocks and springs and that will of course cost more.

Part Numbers from the take offs of the 5th Gen:

Front: 48510-35430
Rear: 48510-35161

If they do fit would I see any lift from them on my 03?

Yes they will, swap is done all the time. You MIGHT have to shave down the steel sleeve the lower bolt does through on the front shocks. Some do, some don't. You may also have to just slightly open up the hole that the top stud goes through for the rear shocks. Some do, some don't. Are you looking for a lift or just a cheap upgrade? 5th gen gen suspension will lift it about an inch I believe.

I'm going with alluminum bumpers and skid plates, that cuts half of the weight from steel ones, but still, me, my wife and 2 pitbulls with a fully loaded kitchen is a lot of weight, although from my accounts I will still be on the safe side of the payload.

Another thing, I dont have money for icon, or any 5 to 4k kits, I'm already rebuilding the car from the frame that I'm looking for, so any suggestions on where to find one would be of great help also.

I'm not doing any rock crawling but i want to be ready for any possible situation.

Just adding to my post, I really liked this kit that I have found here on the forum

But 2 inches lift on the back, I don't know if it is the best for me to do a body lift of 1 inch added to the kit.

And i dont know if the bilsteins cop with a uniball uca.

At higher mileage has anyone completely replaced their stock suspension with oem parts and noticed a big improvement?

I know there is a lot to replace. What is the best way to make sure I order all the necessary parts?

then just swap out the OE coil springs for something with up to 1" of lift and a higher load rate. Some of the dobinson, MOOG and toyota FJ coils will work. You just need to do the research.

I have a 2005 t4r 4wd limited and wondering what kinda lift I should do at first I just wanted to level it and put some bigger tires on but it sounds like I may run into issues with alignment etc. if I’m going to put money into it I want to do it right. I went to a shop and they recommended the icon 3.0 stage 2 kit. Which is pricey but if it’s going to ride nice and fit 275/70r17 and look nice that’s what I’m going for I just don’t want it to look to jacked up and out of place. I look on google and some 3inch lifts look great exactly what I’m looking for then some just look like they are lifted way up and out of place. Any suggestions?? Would be greatly appreciated thanks you

I think if you want to do it right the first time then that's a great route to take, and I personally think that the look of the lift depends largely on the wheels and tires accompanying it, but that lift should look just about how you want it to considering you can adjust the ride height with it. Also, depending on how hard you plan on driving it, there is definitely cheaper options out there that still offer great suspension for those who aren't hardcore offroaders, and the ability to clear bigger tires, like a Bilstein 5100/toytec setup.
