$50 Paint Job

you would sand it down to bare metal then a coat of self etching primer then 1 coat of rustoleum then wetsand real good, the another coat and wet sand again then another coat and again wet sand. i went to a state wide car show when the winner of the best in show trophy came up to the stand he proclaimed it was a wet sand rustoleum job and he left.

if you take the time and sand real good the rustoleum will last forever and look amazing its a self leveling paint so it can shine like a new penny.

All that work to save $150. Not worth it. Rustoleum is THE worst product on the market. I would never recommend it for anything, especially automotive.

You can't tell me all those rollers, sand paper, sanding blocks, primer ect only added up to $50.

Right! No, this has been more of a $100-$125 paint job. But if the experience of so many other people is right and the worst I can expect is for the paint to fade some, I'm okay with that (I haven't read ONE post by someone who's done this and had peeling). The whole damn car was only $700 and it is not my daily driver. It's worth ONE shot at the Rustoleum paint job (let it fade, I'm not doing this twice) and then we'll see. Spraying wasn't an option as I do not have a usable garage nor the expertise and minimal taping was nice as I found that to be the most annoying part of the process. This job is a pain, but it would be so much easier with a dedicated copainter (my boyfriend has been almost completely useless). Plus, Ive become quite attached to old Scruff McGruff in the process. Im glad for the experience and hope you're wrong, Eeyore.

Yes. I know. I didn't describe the process in detail because I thought it was clear from the title. But, yes...that's what I'm doing. The $50 Paint Job. (Except for the sanding down to bare metal part, that isn't necessary).

Looks good! I'm currently doing the same thing to my 4R, although I'm painting it satin black. So far, I've only painted the driver side door, because I had to replace it do to me rolling the beast over while trying to go down a steep hill. I can't do any more painting until we move out of this condo and into our new place. HOA won't let me do any work on my truck.

So far, I've only painted the driver side door, because I had to replace it do to me rolling the beast over while trying to go down a steep hill. I can't do any more painting until we move out of this condo and into our new place. HOA won't let me do any work on my truck.

I'd be interested to see your results. We originally wanted to do black, but none of the results we could find looked even and shiny - they all seemed somewhat dull. But if your results are good, maybe we'll go for black later on. Okay, just kidding. I don't ever want to do this again. I started out very motivated, but this Houston heat has sapped my gusto.

Did you get your idea from the guy up in Canada that painted his 69 Charger with Rustoleum? That thing is beautiful! I'm going to do mine in sections. The roof being the hardest part I think. I'm guessing it may take me a good month to tackle in my off time.

roof is easy just rent a single scaffold section or hook your paint roller to a broom handle

What makes it harder for me is that I'm doing a satin black finish. I can't buff out the final coat like you can with a regular finish. Plus, I rattle can the last 2 coats. That's a big area not to screw up.

i have ya beat! mine was $14.95 paint job. well i guess about $20 after the sand paper.... walmart had a sale on spray on gloss white rustolium... "in a can" sprayed then sanded then sprayed then sanded then waxed and im very happy with it. been on there a year and its still lookin really good.

i dont know what the guys problem is who says rustiolium is the worst paint ever!!!

I'm in Houston, TX. This 4runner spent the last 3 years on a deer lease in far west Texas.

HAHA! I thought this 4runner looked familiar. I'm in Houston too, and I think I saw it on Craigslist or some other website for sale. Nice job on the quick paint.
