5100 question

I feel like a dumb A-- asking this, but I see alot of you guys talking about Bilstine 5100...If I understand correctly these are shocks...The one thing I dont understand is I keep picking up that these provide some type of lift...Is this correct? Can you please expain the bilstine a little more...Also any info on how they alter the ride, better? worse? Help the nose dive under breaking?

Don't feel bad about asking anything here, that's what we're here for. I knew nothing about vehicles before joining. As for your question, yes 5100s are shocks. They are unique in that they have an adjustable bottom ring (where the coil sits). By raising up the bottom ring the spring is lifted upwards giving you more lift. So, you can leave the OEM coils on and just change the OEM shocks to these, front and back, and still get a lift? Pretty simple and cheap. Why would one want to change coils then, assuming they want to keep the ride close to stock?

I was thinking that was correct. I know a little about this stuff due to my jeep but have never seen this type of setup. All the lifts for my wrnagler needed coils, shocks, bump stops, spacers and so on.
