5100 Questions (I know, some idiot making another 5100 thread)

Nice! Let me know how yours turns out, I more than likely won’t be able to compete the lift for two weeks due to some other stuff I have going on. My 4th gen has zero rust on it and all the suspension is in great shape so I’m good on the top hats.

Mine was nearly new when I did this the first time and also had zero rust- was smooth sailing. THEN I moved to Minneapolis, MN (Rust Capital of the US?) and even though I took my truck through a legit total-coverage tunnel car wash weekly I still ended up with some of the cancer underneath. Nothing atrocious but I know it’s going to be more difficult the second time doing this for that reason alone.

Too bad you’re not in CA: I’m doing this in a week or two also, could have brought a bunch of us together and knocked these out over some beers.

*Apologies, no intention to hijack this thread!

I would have loved to link up and knock a few of these out, it’s good to get with other T4R gear heads to learn more about these rigs so they can give us even a longer life.

Be careful on ordering bilstein shocks from amazonfrom trend autos. I ordered a full set and when my mechanic put them on, he notice fluid seeping out on the rears. I called bilstein and they mentioned that it might be residue oil from spraying during the assembly. But I also called trends auto and they have agreed to send me a new pair after i get it check out later today from my mechanic if it is still indeed seeping out fluid.

just lifted my 4runner (stock springs)

billies on all 4 corners. front set to 1.75. 1 in rear spacers from burtmans.

Did you end up completeing your lift? I’m doing my Friday night so I’m pumped

Yeah man, the truck is perfect. Went and got an alignment at the local Toy dealership the next day and the shop foreman asked me when I went to pick it up, “What suspension you put under there? Can hardly believe how smooth she is.” That’s saying something.

What’s funny is, like I said I pulled old FJ springs out that I got from a dude on the FJ Forums. I didn’t think to ask what model FJ the springs came out of when I first bought them but when I was ordering new FJ springs off of PartsGeek I was surprised to see that I had to select from 2 or 4WD models. I didn’t really know but assumed that because I have the V8, stiffer springs would be best (i.e., 4WD FJ would be heavier so I should get those) so when they showed up they were way thicker stock than the FJ springs I pulled out. Anyway, the punchline here is that the new 4WD FJ springs are even better than the first set. And paired with the front 5100s set at 1.75” the truck sits exactly how I wanted and feels phenomenal on the road.

Two tools I didn’t have that I had to run out and get were a longer prybar (for pushing the LCA down enough to get the front shock’s lower eye onto the LCA) and a strap wrench for holding the rear shocks while loosening/tightening the shock’s top bolt.

Other than that, enjoy Friday! Best $500 I’ve spent in a long time.

I have the exact same setup. FJ 4x4 coils front and rear, 5100s all 4 corners, front set at 1.75 and Daystar 1.5” rear.

Installed SPC UCAs to get a bit more caster. He is very smooth, but stiffer than stock. I also have poly sway bar bushings and relocation kit. No diff drop.

I'm having heart palpitations trying to decide between Cooper AT3's or KO2's in the 265/70 size. How do you like the Coops? They look good on your rig, although I'm going with an ever so slightly bigger lift.

I have the FJ couls for the rear instead of the daystar spacer. Hoping to have a small rake but nothing big 1” or less would be ok

I have both FJ springs and Daystar spacer in the rear. My current FJ springs are worn and will be replacing them in the next few weeks. Should be about an inch higher than it currently is.

The AT3s have been great. If I had the money I’d go with KO2s

Sorry pal, long last couple of days. Here you go-

One callout is that I also installed Airlift 1000 bag stystem and at the recommended min 5 PSI, the rear is pretty stiff. Without them inflated to that 5 PSI, this thing was like driving a dream.

How did your install today go?

I forgot to snap some pictures, but I will and have them uploaded. It’s just the lift I was looking for and sits perfect for what I wanted. Question: wife says she has some shake at interstate speeds, I did some reading around and I’m seeing could be diff drop as a potential fix, or replacing u joints in the drive shaft.. any others I’m missing?

I did get everything mounted and balanced with the print out. I also did check her half shafts and the boots are tore in the engine end, don’t think this would cause a shake more go a grinding or popping I believe.

Thanks all!

I am running on a set of coopers too. They run nice and quiet especially if you are on a budget, however I do plan on going with Ko2s in the future, but so far so good with my cooper tires as well.

Are you CV axles original Toyota ones or aftermarket? I had one aftermarket CV axle that did not work with any kind of lift.

I’m not 100% sure, guessing if OEM it would be labeled? I’ll have to check this afternoon

Bumping this instead of making another thread.

I'm trying to mitigate the signature rake with my 2008 Limited 4x4 and have a line on some 2007 FJ coils (4x4, 29k miles on them).

Simply put, will coils from that year combined with 5100s all around level out the vehicle? Is that combination robust enough to eventually support an ARB bumper up front? What's a good price for 4 FJ coils?

Thanks in advance, this forum is amazing
