5100s with OME springs and aftermarket weight

So I have 881/906 OME springs. The shocks I got with the lift package are just too stiff for me. Even with the extra 120 pounds on each end.

I've done some searching but can't find any info about 5100s and after market weight. Would the ride still be comfortable?

Also, I heard it's not a good idea to put adjustable 5100s in the front as it can cause failures due to how small the rings are. Is there a non adjustable option available with Bilstein?

I'm sure many people here have great advice but you could also call Wheeler's Off Road as they sell tons of 5100/OME kits for 3rd Gens and see what they say/recommend. There are 2 common models of Bilsteins for this application. I happen to have 5100s with 881/906. My shocks are set to the bottom perch (came preset from Wheeler's). I didn't really know what I was doing so I went with their advice after they asked me how much weight and armor I planned to carry (not a whole lot). That said, it isn't 'plush' by any means if that's what you are looking for, but handles business just fine off road (other than high-speed washboard, but what does? These aren't mountain bikes).

Are you referring to the ring that adjusts the shock height on the 5100's Being a concern?. I realize it's hard to believe they can hold the entire weight of the truck up, but I can assure you it's a none issue if installed correctly, I have a 600lb hydraulic plow and about 100 lbs of winch and winch mount hanging off the front of my truck for 8-10 years now, heavy off-roading, deep mudding and water crossing, use to plow 10 places, snow salt 7 months a year and never had a problem except one minor leak they warranted under the life time warranty, so I can say if someone had a failure it was due to improper installation. I've used the Tundra 5100's and 4R 5100's and advise anyone lifted 2" + to go for Tundra 5100's.

Yes. The the ring that adjusts the stock height. Sorry I posted this right before I left for work. Yeah that's the concern that I've heard. But it sounds like that set up has been true to you. Why would you recommend the tundra 5100s for people with a 2" or more lift? I believe the 811/906 give you about 2.5" or so. I forgot.

Never heard of the ring failing, and I'd say 600lbs hanging 3' out from the front plus 100lbs for 10-8 years says the ring will not fail if installed correctly. I'm at 23" hub to fender(LTD not including BL) on 5100 4R's 3rd notch up from bottom with original mint 99 coils, the shock has a slight rattle to them over harsh speed bumps/3" tall imperfections in the road, and once I put on whiteline poly LCA bushings the rattle got worse(no more static bushings helping them out). I have lil to much preload on the coil making it obvious the 4R 5100 really can't handle 2" of lift, it doesn't like any droop especially with to much preload, I'm sure the 4R 5100 would be fine if you only use the lowest perch on springs that got you no more than 2" of lift 23" hub to fender. A stock 99 should sit at 20.75-21" tall. The tundras on my other 4R are at the same height hub to fender and have no issues, 2" lift maxes out the 4R 5100's and you need Tundra 5100's. I have New rack bushings, anti-sway bar, and lca poly bushings, anti-sway bar links, new oem tie rods and LBJ's, new top plate with all new OEM rubbers inspected and aligned at dealer. Both 4R and Tundra 5100's ride great, I have the old style Tundras which apparently leaked from time to time, you would want 100lbs extra upfront for the tundras to ride smoothly.

I just installed OME 906s with 5100 in the rear. "Just" as in a few days ago, so I can't speak too much to them, but I haven't noticed them being too stiff. I don't have after market bumpers, but I chose them knowing that I would generally have weight in the back (nothing crazy, just some fire wood, tools, so in the same range you're speaking of) and so far I have found them to feel great -- sort of like what I imagined a good non-bouncy suspension should feel like. I can't speak to the front at all, and I imagine that might be contributing more the the stiff feeling... From my research, it sounds like people pair 5100s with the OMEs because they pair well with each other and the 5100s help reduce the stiffness.
