5spd Manual Transmission Breather

Ok, not 100% sure if this is the breather to the transmission or transfer case. The breather sits just in front of my stick shift on the case. Thought this might help someone in the future.

A few things to note.
- it isn't screwed in like the rear diff breather. it's just pressed in.
- you can pop off the little breather cap, leaving the rest in the transmission. this leaves a little nub of sorts, sufficient to put an 8mm ID hose over it. fits perfectly. the hose i'm using has a 12mm OD.
- i found 1/2" and 9/16" spring hose clamps (these: https://www.grainger.com/product/2UTG6?gucid=N:N:FPL:Free:GGL:CSM-1946:tew63h3:20501231) fit around the nub/hose very well and clamp it down well.
- will likely run the hosing forward and up the engine side of the firewall.

hope that helps anyone looking to extend this breather!

...now i'm off to remove my axle and replace w/ a '99 axle w/ an oem elocker! fingers crossed. should only take a week. lol

It's my understanding that if water makes it up to the stock breather location then you've got much bigger problems like the computers in your driver kick panel getting toasted. I suppose it doesn't hurt to extend if you are already there though.

mine's the anthrocite color as well. love it.

ive had water marks on the doors. no issue w water hitting the kick panel area. actually stayed quite dry except right near the bottom of the door but my door seals are rough from my lab getting in. his paws do a number on them. it's on the list.

It's my understanding that if water makes it up to the stock breather location then you've got much bigger problems like the computers in your driver kick panel getting toasted. I suppose it doesn't hurt to extend if you are already there though.

Unless you are doing water crossings with your door open or have a rust hole in the body you aren't going to get that much water in the cab.

Oh, interesting. My auto has the transfer case breather sealed, it goes to the shifter via a small and ridiculously hard hose to put back on.. I have a J shift.

The breather is a little cap next to the forward shift block-off plate - opposite the linking breather between the transfer case and adapter housing. I bet the MT breather is similar, based on the description.

I actually have an R150F next to me so I can verify that there is a breather in front of the transmission shifter that's for the transmission. There's also another breather by the rear left corner of the shifter that's the breather for the transfer case adapter section of the transmission (doesn't have any fluid and it's essentially a blank space between the transmission internals and the transfer case).
