5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

Usability of this site has drastically reduced for me due to admins falling to notice malware on time.
I'm stuck paying from the phone half the time, and, quite frankly, have no fine nor desire arguing.

I don't think you understood where I was going with my comment.
Good luck to ya.

What was the point of that pic? (Just curious...)

I could post a pic of a brand new 5100 next to a rusted out POS stock shock and people would think it's the best shock ever made (judging by the image they are looking at).

Now maybe if it was to show some sort of comparison in sizing, etc., I would think using two brand new examples of each might be better suited...?

Does anyone have a part # for the three bolts needed for the top mount of icon coilovers. If no part number maybe specs in the bolts. I have to buy two sets and icon doesn't have any of that info on the site

I noticed a lot of people asking about Bilstein 5100 combo with different rear springs.

I am running 5100 front and rear (front set to 1.75).
I am running OME 2895e rear coils with a OME 10mm trim packer only on the drivers side rear.

My experience... I almost wish I set my fronts to 2.5 because I have quite a strong rake with the rear obviously higher in the back because those coils are 2" lift... But I actually like the rear high look & it comes in handy when I load anything in the rear. I noticed that even a ton of gear plus my heavy 3rd row seat plus hitch rack and 4 bikes = virtually NO sag or drop in the rear coils. Even though the 2895e coils are light load they seem to be perfect for anything except for maybe a heavy rear bumper.
I love my current setup and in the future I'll definitely do some OME coils in the front to complete the lift but for now I'm good. Also, I was on he fence about adding a trim packer spacer on the drivers side rear only but it was a great idea and I have NO driver side lean, even on a full tank. Both rears measure a perfect 24.25inches from center cap to fender.

Here you can see my setup and how the rear is definitely higher than the front with the OME coils.

SR5 Build Help Needed!

Hi guys,

I may have a similar story to some on this forum, and am a newbie at best but i recently fell into the TRD pro suspension kit for a very good price and am going to be putting it on my 2015 SR5 Premium. I have been considering a suspension upgrade for awhile, but i think the TRD Pro set up gives me enough off road and on road performance balance for what i will be doing with my truck. In all of the research i have done, the ToyTec front coil and top plate spacers seem to be the perfect fit for me.

My question, and after reading all of this thread it seems to be no, but are there any true long term affects on the life of the shocks with this system? I have read in this thread that there seem to be no performance issues when riding on trails, but anything worth noting as a risk with these?

Also, i am considering the Radflo 2.0 rear springs for the rear lift. For some reason i am concerned about the fit with the front. Does anyone know of anyone running the radflo rear springs? they are 20% stiffer then stock. i tow a boat long distances occasionally so a little stiffer ride would be nice, but can anyone shed some light on how stiff the ToyTec rear springs are at 10%? or is anyone running a spring (or the radflo spring) that is rated 20% stiffer than stock on the TRD Pro?

I am also considering the Icon Uniball billet control arms for this set up.

Thoughts comments, concerns on these ideas are greatly appreciated

I'm running stock suspension. I want to level the truck out, but if I have everything apart I might as well throw a lift in there and do it the right way. Not looking to break the bank, and short on cash for new rubber. So 2" max is all I'm looking for. I assume this setup would work?

Front-Bilstein 5100 set at ~2" (#24-196499)
Rear- Bilstein 5160/ Daystar 1.5" spacer (#33-187174)

Found everything on Amazon for $220. Can anyone confirm that the stock OEM springs will accommodate a 2" lift doing light off-roading in deep sand on the beach and snow. I'm thinking I might just get the front and set them near 1.5" or whatever the closest setting is just t level the truck out. Once I splurge for larger tires, I'll get the tears with spacers, then reset the fronts higher to match.

I didnt want the rake,... I went with Bilstein 6112 set to the 4th clip and then in the rear I have 1.5" daystar spaces... I am perfectly level. When I get a rear bumber w/ spare tire carrier and a roof rack, then I will go with springs and the weight should compensate with the extra spring height.

Does anyone know with the Bilstein 5100 adjustable fronts if you use them at a certain setting, can you change the setting at a later time? Or does the ring permanently set when you apply a load to the shock

you can always change it, but you have to disassemble the entire strut.

I assumed so. Don't have the cash for bigger tires yet so don't want to lift too much or else it'll look stupid. Just going to level the front... I assume to change the adjustment it's the same process as just replacing the strut. Except instead of putting a new strut in, you just take the strut out, reset the collar and put the same strut back into the coil and reinstall?

Yes. I initially installed mine using the 1.75" setting. When I added the OME 2" front springs I had them reset to the zero position. But I would't worry about tire size throwing the look off too badly. I'm still running 265's and content with the look. I would recommend you get hold of Bilstein and see if they will send you a set of replacement rings. They are technically reusable, but there is always the possibility one may break while repositioning it.

Thought this picture might help in your decision making process.

I think it looks pretty good at 2.5F/2.0R, and I won't have to change a thing when I go with new tires.

You found 4 Blistein shocks and Daystar spacers for $220 on Amazon!?! Was this a combined kit or are you buying all the parts separately?

So I guess I will ask this here. I have been reading here and looking at specs on the BilsteinLifts website and my question is this:

This buyers guide is EXTREMELY helpful and has helped me narrow my choices. I am really not wanting to go any higher than 3" overall because my 2016 TE is my daily and I do not have a desire to replace UCAs unless I discover I must later down the road. I have decided on the 5100s for the front and would like to match them in the rear as well. I would like to maintain nice ride quality so would my best bet be a spacer in the rear matched with the 5100s or is the better bet to go with coils (OMEs, Toytec, etc.)? Most coils appear to state 2.5" - 3.0" but does that mean it will actually add 2.5" - 3.5" of lift to the rear or that they will match a 2.5" - 3.5" front lift (level)? I am sure there is a benefit of coils over spacers but I am just wanting to find the best scenario for my goal. Overall desire is: Comfort, Level, 1.25" wheel spacers and 3" or less in lift to allow for 285s.

*Disclaimer... I am coming from the opposite end of the spectrum (SCCA racing and Enduro series where low and tight is the name of the suspension game thus the EXTREME curiosity of the 4WD suspension aspects. I am really learning a lot from the wealth of knowledge here coming into the realm of 4WD and appreciate the responses I have had so far.*

I have the 5100s on my 2015. I am running at top clip (2.5) with the daystar spacer. It will match the 2.5 to 3 in lift. I have not done any thing else to this point. You will have a better ride with the 2in spring over the spacer though.
