5th Gen 4Runner?

All I've seen is a pic of a concept - "FJ Runner" - the rearend of a 4Runner and the front end of an FJ... Anybody heard/seen anything else?

I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota began consolitdating their SUV line up. And joining the FJ with the 4Runner (both true off-road vehicles) would seem like a logical first step. I think if they stuck with the 4Runner, making it much larger would degrade it's off road abilities. So keeping a similar size and combining it with the FJ might make sense. Putting the history of both names in one vehilce might help lead to success of the new vehicle.

If they made an FJ style full size SUV with 4 real doors, a V8 option, the full-time 4wd and an automatic and got rid of that heinous blindspot, then I think you'd have a worthy 5G 4Runner.

The FJ could be the model that was the stripped down version (no carpet, access doors only, etc.). The 4Runner version could have carpet, a solid paint color, a moonroof option, the aforementioned V8 and Torsen diff, and a third row option (plus a rear window that rolled down and the spare mounted underneath).

I think it would be a great way to share the best of both worlds.

As for the Toyota Fortuner...that doesn't look too far off what I'd expect it the 5th Gen 4Runner to look like (somewhere between the 08 Highlanders and Sequoias). We'll see I guess.

I like the Fortuner. I think it's a cool vehicle. I know some here hate it though.

That is old news. That Softroader isn't going to be the next 4Runner.

Can't believe the actually put the stupid barn door on it as well. I might as well get a GX if I wanted that barn door on it.

The concept is good...but the execution isn't.

I agree with BamBam about his vision of combining the two models. A four-door version of the FJ, with no blindspot and no barn door. Keep the back roll down window because that was the selling point for me (easy to let the chamber out =). Also, if this FJ Runner came with 35" m/t tires stock would be excellent.

Not bad for a concept vehicle. Looks a little too FJ-ish though. Not too many noticeable 4R aspects (at a glance anyways).

Yeah! Like he said, if you want a herd hauler, get a mini-van or say the Highlander or Land cruizer.
