Love the look and design of these crossbars — very nice work. One question I had was, are they higher than the antenna fin? In other words, for example, would a load of lumber sitting on the bars clear the fin?

Another question: if I wanted spray the hardware black, what’s the best paint to use?

I set a level across my rack (on a 2018 ORP). The top surface of the rack is about 1/4 inch higher than the fin.

Since I wanted to keep the silver color I rattle can sprayed them with a gloss clear coat. I used Krylon Color Maxx, but any good indoor/outdoor spray paint would work. The brackets have a fine wire brushed swirl pattern on them, so all you really need to do is get them real clean before spraying. I used isopropyl alcohol to wipe off any remaining oxidation and oils. Then let the paint cure for a day or two before installing them.

You could always put a 1/4 or 1/2 inch strip of wood on top of that last crossbar, then lash down your load, to give you more room above the fin.

Thanks for highlighting that as a concern. I actually thought of that because I don’t own a truck and I do a lot of projects. When I do haul wood it’s mostly lumber and I have a tendency to strap it on one side or the other and not the middle.

Also, to deflect the bar enough to touch the fin with what you are carrying it would have to be very heavy. I stood on one of the bars and it deflected just a bit. I weigh around 270.

As Electoboy mention, you could always put a board under the load to increase the height.

I love the features this provides but need to be able to transport snowboards/skis in the winter. Sorry if I missed any information on this earlier in the thread. Thanks!

This uses a standard 8020 crossbar as all of the other commercial racks. If it will fit on any of the others it will fit on this one assuming there is enough length in the rack from front to back.

Just wanted to post that I've got two sets left ready to be shipped. After those two there may be a bit of a delay. I'm trying to sell my house and get to a place where I can expand a bit on this venture and other things. This means that I can't have a manufacturing facility set up in my home. I've got everything packed up. I'm still moving forward and will continue to sell and support but there may be a delay in the near future.

Also, sometimes in life you are in a position where God or the universe or karma or whatever you believe starts dropping little hints that you need a change in your life. I was planning on selling my house after the 5 or so hurricanes and random interesting things that happened in my neighborhood. I think yesterday sealed the deal and the message has been sent loud and clear.

I currently working on the upgraded brackets and should have some more ready to go in a few weeks. There are a lot of variables but I think it should be doable.

It’s a Reolink system. You have to run a Cat5 cable to each camera for power and Comms but the system is bulletproof and has been trouble free for years. On top of that you can see the footage from any device In real time easily.

You’re right, this year has been pretty challenging. Interacting with the folks here and being able to deliver a solution to everyone has been a bright spot for sure. I really appreciate when folks post a picture of their installed racks. That makes me very happy.

As if my life isn't weird enough already... It was a petite young woman in her early 20's. She was in the middle of a psychotic episode when she hit my car. She lived a block and a half away and her neighbors said she redlined it before she threw it in gear. There is a stop sign between her house and mine and she blew through it and was still picking up speed when she hit my car.

She got out of the car and was clearly upset which I thought would subside in a minute. It didn't because she was going through an "episode". It actually got worse. I'm a pretty calm guy so I didn't make the situation worse. My car got smashed but honestly it's just "stuff" and "stuff" can be replaced.

Anyway my wife called the police about a regular traffic accident. Then the psychotic episode really manifested itself. The young girl started banging her head on the pavement, no kidding. In the end, I had 6 cop cars and an ambulance in front of my house. The girl wasn't physically hurt but she was just nuts.

In a side note, when the tow truck came to pick up my car he said he couldn't get it while it was against the fence. He asked me if it would start. I said I didn't know and jumped in to see. It fired right up and I backed it away from the fence.

He was having a tough time figuring out how to pick up the car. He then just jumped in it and drove it in a u turn up to the back of his truck so he could grab it. I was shocked but it drove right over there. It might not look like it but that little car is built like a tank.
