5th gen catalytic converter vs older models

Ok, hopefully my search-fu hasn't failed me on this. If so, please be gentle and point me in the right direction. :yield:

I know older 4Runners are plagued with catalytic converter thefts. Are 5th gens less likely to have this problem due to a different design/location of the cat? I saw in one other thread someone mentioned that it's harder to get to it on the current model compared to the old ones just dangling out there begging to be cut off and taken.

They are tucked up higher on the exhaust now, and for TE and LE, also have a cross member brace covering them, making sawzall access very difficult.

That's good news. Anything to make it more inconvenient for the bad guys is a good thing. Thanks for the info!

Yeah they are tucked up closer to the engine so it can warm up quicker and reduce cold start emissions.
