5th Gen - ClearBra / Paint Protection Films.

Hey everyone..


I'm super OCD about my cars, and since rockchips and salt chips/spray are prominent here in the Northeast. Since I took delivery of my 11 BP LTD, I flew off the rocker, and bought the entire setup to cut this stuff, including a 36" plotter, $1400 in film and a quite pricey design/template program.

Just a little note to let everyone know that I have the supplies to cut the ClearBra / PPF film here, and the templates for almost every car. I'm not trying to solicit a legitimate business here, just something other members with nice cars they want to keep rock chip free.

It's not the easiest to install, and takes a lot of patience. There are a bunch of videos on youtube if you want to research it a little.

All in all, if anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll cut/ship you a kit for your car at cost. It will really help me offset the cost of the materials.. Ideally, I'm just trying to get back some of the money on the equipment and do my car for free.

Where in the Northeast are you located? Are you confident to do a good install?

I've very confident I can do install it. I've done vinyl work for years with a fews sign businesses, including car wraps, so this is along the same line. I'm located in Rhinebeck, NY.

Paint Protection

I had the 3M paint protection installed on my 2010 LE two days after I purchased it. Love this stuff. This is the first vehicle I have had it on and won't go without it ever again. Northeast Ohio is the worst for rockchips and salt chips. Cost me $750 installed for the entire front facia, headlights, fog lights, and the back of the mirrors. If any is interested the sight is called. blockachip.com. He also came right to my house and did it in my garage. But you can also take it to his shop. Took him almost 7 hrs though he did an excellent job.

Gotta give props to this stuff. I didnt drive my 4runner for a good week while I waited to get this stuff installed. It took a good 5-6 hours to do the job.

Cant even tell its there either unless your like a foot away.

Hey preston818, you may want to wait on putting the film on the headlights because I read on this forum that there is an issue with the headlights developing a foggy appearance. The headlights may need to be changed out eventually, so you may save yourself a couple of bucks by waiting till they figure out what is up with the headlights. I doubt the dealer would pay for the new headlights to be covered with this film. But you do what you thinks is best for you!! Just saying

No what I was trying to say is that if Toyota recalls the headlights due to the fact that the material that the headlight is made from is defective. If this happens you'll need to replace your headlights. Dont put the 3m protective film on them if they need replaced, your just wasting money. The foggy appearance of the headlight is NOT a result of the 3M protective film.

The headlights should not need replacing due to the foogy appearance. The thread states that it buffs right out, lots of headlights develop that haze, just needs to be polished.

BTW, i also have more patterns for the 5th gen, not just whats pictured. A pillars, chrome strips, foglights, grille, etc.
