5th Gen Extended PIDs for Torque App

Finally got my, uh our, umm, my wife's 2014 4runner in. First order of business was to hook up my OBDLink Scan Tool, Torque app and run Torque Scan to see if I got any results. Unlike our other two cars ('06 Accord/'06 Impreza) which gave 0 results, the 4Runner returned a cornucopia of PIDs.

I spend some trying learing how to interpret Torque Scan's responses, but didn't get too far. This link helped quite a bit though. I then remembered the Prius guys over at priuschat have a massive lift of PIDs they've already decoded and reverse engineered formulas for. Took their Gen III (2010+) Torque PID list and cross referenced it with the results received from the 4Runner to see which PIDs are the same between the Gen III Prius and 5th Gen 4Runner.

I've attached a zipped CSV that can be pulled into as a predefined set in Torque. To do so (shamelessly stolen from priuschat):

Copy the CSV file to Android SD card (could be internal memory)

First, you need the paid version of Torque app. Simply unzip the CSV file in ".torque/extendedpids" folder on your micro SD card. Keep in mind that ".torque" folder is hidden so set your explorer to show the hidden folders. If you don't see the folder, create it.

Import Custom PIDs

In Torque main screen, press Menu -> Settings -> Manage extra PIDs/Sensors -> Menu -> Add predefined set.

Display Custom PIDs

From the main menu (rotatable items), choose the Realtime Information. From there, you can add those custom PIDs that you imported. Just touch and hold the empty spot and a menu will come up.

The Gen III Prius have 312 unique PIDs they've decoded. I've been through 103 of them and so far have 43 (or so) that work for our 5th Gens.

I'm guessing most of these PIDS are Toyota-wide and can be used on any ~2010 Toyota vehicle.

4th Gen 4Runners should be able to parse the Gen2 Prius PIDs and use those.

02/22/2014 - Screwed up my knee a while back. Haven't been able to continue PID validation/extraction. Should be able to make some progress in a few more weeks.

i dont see the TT pan temp and TT converter temp in there. those would be the only ones i would really care about.

i wonder if my torque custom pids for the 2012 tacoma for the TT pan/converter would work.

i use my torque mostly when i haul heavy loads or pull trailers to ensure i dont over do the temp on the TT.

nice that i can move my BT adapter between 12 tacoma and soon 14 4Runner.

I am interested in oil pressure and oil temperature among other thing.

First question, do 5th gen 4Runners have oil pressure sensors and oil temperature sensors and are they hooked up to the ECU?

Second question, does anyone know the PID/formula for them?

my friend has the Torque App and tried it on my truck and i couldn't get trans temps, but he said that he read if i bought a higher quality bluetooth adapter that it might show more such as the trans temp which is all i really want too! so i'd be interested in trying it out with the module that you bought!

The problem isn't his adapter, but rather that you need to add in two custom PIDs to get tranny temps. The ECU doesn't store trans temps in the 'standard' locations Torque looks for.

My wife's going out of town and I'm getting a TIS cable in so I should be able to work through some of the PIDs in the next two weeks.
 
I have tried google and did not get anywhere. I'm wondering if it is possible to create a custom PID in Torque for tire pressure since our T4Rs have a TPMS. Seems like Techstream can do this??? So why can't Torque?
 
Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I do not have enough posts to start a new one.
I have a Torque App (paid) and am trying to read trans temps on a 2016 T4R. I downloaded the CVS pid file submitted by JeremyB above and get a multitude of working PIDs but the ones listed for the TRANS TEMPS do not, at least not on my 2016.

Any help getting me straightened out on a 2016 would be greatly appreciated.

The TPMS runs on a different and separate protocol than the OBD-II. Torque doesn't support running two protocols at the same time or the protocol that TPMS uses. Could it be done? Probably, but I highly doubt it'll ever be implemented in Torque.

Here is a screenshot of what is actively working in torque on my 2014. In and out (pan and converter) in F. I only use the out value right now. "In" is only useful for testing cooling solutions. The important temp is the max temp the oil exists in the system.

Is it Mr Wart or Mr Hog? Anyway thanks. The PIDs you provided are identical to the what is found in Mr JeremyB's CSV file. However I got it work by removing the CSV file from the the SD card and relied on the vehicle profile. Then entered the PIDS directly into the Torque app. There are already two entries labeled "Trans" in the Torque App (I wish I could edit them out but that's a project for another day) so I got a bit creative and named the two new ones differently so I could tell them apart.
It works! I don't know why the identical PIDs wouldn't work from the CSV file but putting them in by hand worked. I and my '16 are happy.:thumb3:

Sweet. That may have been were I originally got my data as well, was some time ago now. I entered it by hand.

I added this photo to my build thread with some keywords so hopefully in the future it'll be easier to find :D
 
So has anybody figured out of we can get oil pressure or temp readings? I've been looking for hours on the web but haven't found anything.

There is no sensor for oil pressure, so no chance of getting that. Oil temperature is available, but nobody has taken the time to slog through the process to identify which PID it is.
 
Not meaning to hijack the thread but what OBDII module is everyone using? The one I want does not work on the iPad so I am stuck with either some really cheap ones or spending close to $100. I am looking for one I can leave in all the time without draining the battery and I guess it has to be wifi to work with the iPad minis.

The reader I am using is in my signature. It works with my android devices wifi devices.
