Found the data sheet on that oil. 181 PPM so still falls very short of Toyota oil. Definitely a better option that M1 though

over the counter at the parts store? no way. the highest i see from used oil analysis are in the 150ppm range. Rotella Gas Truck and Quaker State Ultra Durable come to mind.
as far as boutique oils, some Amsoil Series, Schaeffers and Redline Oils will come in with a real strong dose at like 350 or more, Red Line Professional Series 0W20 in particular sees over 450+ in analysis. but you're paying 3x the price for that over mainstream, sale-driven oil brands.
IMO, buy whatever synthetic brand of your preference is on sale, and if you just have to have that moly boost, grab a bottle of LiquiMoly MOS2 additive. it shouldn't hurt anything and may increase fuel mileage slightly.

Here’s the PQIA test results for sometime in 2018 and it lists the Toyota Moly content as 787ppm. API Service SN.
Have you found more recent test data?

I looked on ebay for the closest toyota dealer that was selling at discount for a case. Called up the internet parts department and purchased with store pickup since I was going there anyway for my oil filters and there was no delivery fee. So it was $33 for a case of six quarts.

Yeah my local dealers won't compete with online prices and they also don't sell online period. They have no online parts department for whatever reason. Said and done I paid $7.24 a quart which is more than I would like to spend but considering how little I drive I do 5k mile oil changes every 8-9 months so it is what it is. My wife has a 2019 Highlander which will likely see maybe 5K a year so the oil cost really isn't bad. I don't think there are any other oils on the market with an additive package that comes close to what the Toyota spec oil offers.

I believe the Moly is about 116 now, but again there is a limit to an additives usefulness and a point where it is a concern. If a level of 100 PPM is optimum, then no point putting 200 PPM in as at high levels moly is hard on viton seals and CATS! I wonder if Toyota are making up for the 0/20 being thinner than the engine was actually designed for with high add pack to offset the MPG loss they would get with a 10/30. Mo1 EP is using a better base stock and less add pack to keep the oil affordable.....but at a 10K OCI or less, I don't think you can go wrong with any approved oil.

The Toyota oil I ordered appears to be the original formula. If they did drop it to 116 PPM with their new formula, I will switch to whatever off the shelf oil I can find that has the highest Moly content. M1 is off the table at this point since they are very low.

Redline is another high moly oil with the added benefits of a true group 4 &5 base oil. Amsoil being another group 4 & 5 base oil but lower moly content. Real synthetics have better thermal stability, better additive response and stay in grade longer. Your paying more but you really are getting a superior oil; if you really need it that’s a personal decision. Off the shelf oil? QSUD all the way, respectable 200+ ppm moly. If your chasing moly Toyota, Schaffer’s, Redline and MPT thirty-K are the highest I’ve seen. MPT coming in with 1000+ ppm moly.

it'll take a while for me to show you guys a used oil analysis on this stuff but i've got two 5qt jugs of QSUD waiting on the shelf to go in on the next oil change, probably in another couple months. i think it'll be a solid choice, and pretty damn hard to beat for the under $20/jug price at wally world.

Good so it still contains the 787 PPM of Moly. That is unmatched by anything else off the shelf so that is what I will continue to use even though I don't like the $7.00+ per quart locally which is about the same as online.

Good catch. That’s a great price. I actually will be traveling in that area soon...
I wonder why dealer’s prices vary so much.
My local ones are $7.50-8.50 per qt.
Here’s a good online price of $4.87 at oempartsource, but shipping is pretty expensive.

I've been changing my own oil in my T4R since I purchased it. (125K miles now) Just me, I buy the cheapest brand at Autozone, 0W20, in 5 quart jugs and do oil changes every 5K miles. I think it's usually $21 per 5 quarts. I do buy the better oil filter, the one made in the USA, and not the cheapy made in China. Filter is about $8 I think. At any rate this combo has been serving me fine. I will change out the oil drain plug washer every 1-2 years, I inspect it every time to be safe. I usually use a copper washer which seems pretty durable.
I just put a Toytec Ultimate 3 inch lift on it, which has made changing oil quite a bit easier.
Just yesterday I got a TRD skid plate and will be replacing the OEM skid plate and funky plastic filler piece with it. Will do the bolt tap and cleaning of course. I think this will make my oil changes slightly easier as the OEM skip plate is a minor PITA

Yes sir, that QSUD is good oil! I used it in my old GMC 2500 with amazing results. I just did my first oil change and went with my all time favorite Amsoil; I used it religiously when I was canyon racing. 6200 RPM’s over and over hour after hour month after month and my UOA’s from blackstone were Perfect.
I’ll post my UOA on my next change also.
On a side note, it’s important to get that factory oil out at 2-3k miles, I had silver glitter in the bottom of my oil filter housing last night when I dumped the factory fill. The filter itself had some too! That’s one thing I like about the oil filter, easy to inspect.

Very interesting, thanks for locating this. It shows that just about any major brand oil is OK with proper oil change intervals. I wonder if there is a tabulation of 2018-19 0W20 formulations to be found.
On the PQIA site if you look at the most recent M1 AFE 0W20 and compare it to the 2013 M1 10W30, the additives look about the same. And if you compare the most recent M1 AFE 0W20 to the most recent Toyota 0W20, likewise, the additive packages look very similar, except for the molybdenum. Toyota must use M1 and tweak the formula; add a little more calcium and magnesium, and a whole lot of moly. So for those of us with OCD we all can take comfort in using M1 AFE in place of Toyota oil.
This has all been expounded on by lots of posters on this and other forums, but it’s interesting to discover again.
But, one more thing...
