5th gen seats in 4th gen?

Alright so my seats are due to be replaced as the foam is showing in some places and just doesn't look good, so I was thinking would 5th gen seats fit in a 4th gen?

if not has anyone used katzkin or leatherseats.com? as those are the two I'm looking at.
I'm probably going to replace my carpet with one I found on Ebay as well as there are some stains in that that just wont come out.

That’s a really good question… I would consider doing this if it was a direct drop in.

The only thing is I think 5th gen seats would fit but I'm not sure about the wiring such as the airbag and controls for the seat.

if they are the same I believe it should be a direct fit

Resurrecting old thread!!!! Does anyone know of the 5th gen seats would bolt up to the 4th gens? I’ve come across a good deal on a full set of 2012 seats, I have a 2004 can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure it's NO. I researched the option a year or so ago, and I think the physical seat is too wide, such that the bolsters would rub hard against the center console. Bracket swaps and fabs are pretty common to do a seat swap in general, but the seats have to be roughly the same size. After having sat in a current gen Highlander, if there was a swap for those seats, I would kill for it, lol.

I bought new oem foam for the driver's seat, put seat heaters, and new leather upholstery in my 4runner for Christmas. Out the door was about $1400 with me installing it myself. Foam was $300ish, $100-$150 for seat heaters that also go on the bolsters, and leather was $900ish. I used leatherseats.com and they were awesome all around. Highly recommended.

I think I did a search for something similar a few years back.. They dont fit right and look weird for minimal gain in comfort was the end result. I ended up purchasing a replacement OEM foam bottom for my seat.. put it in myself.. my thread is somewhere on here.. not hard just slightly time consuming.. Made a HUGE difference. If I was going to replace the covers, id go with Clazzio's.

Katzkin leather is fantastic from my experience.

I picked up a new set of old stock on eBay, entire leather interior for $300.

Install is a labor of love, takes some time, but even an amateur like myself was able to do it without any issues.

Best upgrade my truck has received hands down.

How's the lumbar on the new foam? My lower back always hurts on long drives. I hate those office chair lumbar supports. They are always too bulky.

I think it's much better, but keep in mind that it's still the driver's seat of a 4runner. It's only as good as it was from the factory. If that isn't/wasn't good enough, you won't be happy. For me, the first 140k miles on this car were in butts other than my own, so the seat foam was broken in in a way that wasn't quite comfortable for me. The new foam has settled in nicely over the last 3-4k miles. I forgot to plug back in my power lumbar, but it's set just right, so I never mess with it. If you rarely have a front passenger, the foam will be similar to you passenger's seat, just more dense. Kind of like a fresh bread versus stale - that's a weird description, but you'll see.

Other than the OEM foam, I used leatherseats.com for everything. Here's their heated seats. I got both front seats and both with the side bolster addons during a Black Friday sale, so I think it was actually a bit over $200. I recalled the price incorrectly I guess. Really nice kits though. Comes with a switch, fuse, and a good relay. High gets really warm, and low is nice and subtle. Compared to my wife's Subaru, they get warm a little slower, but the high setting is hotter than hers. The bolsters are probably not worth the extra cost if you aren't a wide individual.

My only suggestion would be to get their hog rings, but not the hog ring plyers they sell. I was ready to throw them out the window. The seatbacks are near impossible to hog ring, so I ended up using zip ties on some that were being difficult. probably 10-15% were zip tied.

the lumbar is a jack screw that pushes out the factory foam. So new foam I doubt would have an appreciable difference. I've taken several seats apart from junk yards and have found foam that seemed like new to completely disintegrating seats. But for the most part, the only foam in bad shape was the bottom seat cushion.

I’m happy with my Clazzio perforated leather seat covers. They fit well and hard to tell they are just covers. Everyone thinks they’re leather seats and are shocked when I tell them they’re just covers. They sell a pair of seat heaters with switches for $119-$169 that I’ve been considering getting as well. May consider it before next winter. I have heated seats in my Subi and they sure spoil you.

The leather seats.com covers are a little pricey but look very nice.
