5th gen steering wheel swap?

Hey guys,

I was looking at some pictures of the 5th gen interior(2011-2013) and noticed the steering wheels have the silver panels like our radio bezels. This gave me an idea, what if I swapped in the 5th gen steering wheel into my 4runner. The only doubt I have is the steering wheel control wiring. Can anybody chime in on this?

I was very interested in this too. There's a good chance it's a mere plug and play, wiring and hook up. Expensive though I imagine. Wheel and airbag separate, costing over a thousand maybe. I'm still investigating the black TRD PRO wheel, but at a very slow pace. I'll let you know if I find anything about specifics. I need to find one at a dealer near me so I can measure a few things and take a close up look. Then speak with the right parts guy. Most don't care, so they don't know and won't ask one of the mechanics to weigh in...but I'll keep on it. Cheers, G.

Well I mean, as long as the splines line up and fit; I guess you could splice the wires into a new connector so it's plug and play... the airbag connectors are the same ones we've used for at least 10 years so that shouldn't be an issue really.

I'm still researching this, but do you know that the audio connectors changed on the 5th gen model? I was thinking the harness might be the same with a few changes wiring wise. I mean some 4th gen.'s had phone controls, but the harness was the same whether the wheel did or didn't....curious.
Waiting to hear back from an after market vendor about their wheels and such. Cheers, G.
