I'm all for this idea, but there is a better way to do this than aggregating everyone's personal information all in one place (as one person already pointed-out).

How about we create a list in google docs that is controlled via Brock to have people add access? How about we maintain the list in a Dropbox shared folder? Evernote? C'mon guys...

I suppose that could work just fine, so long as I am around for anyone that needs the info sent to them. But, really, someone could just say that they are stuck and need the info and get it anyway. Check the link I posted, and the amount of names and contact numbers there. I do not think that any tinfoil hats are needed. I will do whatever works best for the masses, but I see no problem posting up phone numbers.

Now, if everyone could PM me your account and routing numbers, I really need those for....ummmm....this thread :jk:

I'm with brock, is it such a bad idea to post cell numbers, now a days you can choose to disregard a number and send it to voice mail. I'd gladly help out another TR4 member if they were in my area and I was available.

The point isn't the phone number... it's all of the information that comes along with the phone number. I don't want to embarass anyone, so I won't post the information here, but here's what I was able to dig-up with five minutes of looking:

Brock: Full name, address, birth month and year, home value and information
Moist: Full name, address, exact birthdate, home value and information (pool - nice!), you own cats, ride a motorcycle, email address, Amazon Wishlist, etc, etc

I invested 5 minutes of my time to get that information and I wish you no harm.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and share the concern of posting more information on the Internet than needed..

As Brock displayed in most people have Internet access from their phone now and get email.. What about a PM name (like "HELP"), that is set up like a distribution list?

That way multiple people will get the message and no phone numbers need to be publicly listed. In the message the OP can list a contact number.. That way everyone wins.

It will take some assistance from an administrator to set up (and maintain) the distribution list.

For those concerned about giving out thier phone number, might I recommend google voice? It's free, and you can setup the number to forward to your real cell. It will also relay texts and allow you to respond from your google number.

Mine is easy, as you just have to Google my name, which is also my screen name. My info is out there regardless. Google search your own name, you will find the same things, things like property is public record. As I said, I understand your concerns, and will happily set this up differently if a way is found.

Google itself isn't very useful as there are much better tools out there - most of which are free and just require some time and know-how. As I said, it took me 5 minutes to find out the information here and that's just the surface of what someone who is targeting you would look for. It's not difficult to assume someone's identity on the Internet and have that transgress into "real life" as well. It's also dead simple to target you and your family for social engineering attacks, robbery, etc once you make it easy for the crooks.

Google Voice is a good option, but as was pointed-out by Okki: more than likely someone is going to have to get on the forum to look at the list anyway, so why not just PM instead of putting all of this personal info out there? More than likely if a person is really interested in helping a fellow T4Rer they'll likely be an active member of the forum to begin with and check the forum fairly regularly.

I concur. Many intelligent bad people out there.

I have several of the member's phone numbers already and they have mine through pm's. If you are going to be going off road in my neck of the woods all you have to do is pm me beforehand to get my number. Most plan trips in advance. Unfortunately many places around here have no cell coverage out in the mountains. My wife made me get a GPS SOS transmitter after last year's accident.

I am not that savy when it comes to the internet apart from sending e-mails and searching amazon, but is there anyone out there that can maybe suggest a better way to accomplish this task?
