The lift doesn’t matter, and it depends what you’re rubbing today. Going from +4mm to -12mm moves the center of your wheel outward by 16mm. If the inner tread of the tire is causing rubbing today, it may stop doing so with the new wheels. However, increased scrub radius may cause the outside of the tire to contact (if already doing so, then even more) fender liner, mud flap, etc.

Basically, tell us what you’re rubbing and where otherwise we’ve no way to even guess.

I already rub on the front wheels when reversing at full lock on my 2” lift with stock TRD Pro wheels & 285/70/17. Would the extra 2” or 2.6” extra cause a problem ? The stock wheels vs the new wheels are same backspacing but more negative offset and wider.

Stock
Offset: 4mm
Backspacing: 4.5”
Width: 7”

New:
Offset: -12mm
Backspacing: 4.5”
Width: 9”

285 70 17 durtrac 17x9 wheel with -12 offset
front liner pushed forward 2" and plastic bumper lower trim
also either remove the mudflap or flatten the bubble section with heat and pressure
then all should clear

Saw these pics posted on TW tire and wheel section. Poster didn’t have much info other than these are new design for the Cooper Discoverer at3s. Side walls look good! Couldn’t find any info on the webs yet. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon!

Replacing my Grandtrek AT20s

So my 2012 4 Runner came with Dunlop Grandtrek At20s. When I priced them, they are over 200 dollars a piece.

I mainly use my truck for business and occasional wet or muddy fields for work. The image above was for my company promo. I don't climb mountains for a living.

I called Dunlop and others and I can't figure out what tire would be an equivalent to the Grandtrek At20.

The AT20 is junk, upgrade, don't stay with the same. If you want a street tire, General Grabber HTS, if you want an AT tire, General Grabber AT2 or the BFG KO2

Need some help. I have the TRD FJ suspension kit installed on my 2010 SR5 which essentially gives it a 1" lift up front and very nominal in the rear. I'm looking to get new wheels but continue using the my OE sized Cooper Adventurers (265/70-17). I researched and found that the wheels are ok to fit up to a 9" wide wheel but here are the specs and I want to know if anyone is running OE sized wheels with similar specs and has no rubbing or other mods needed. My main concern is the offset and backspacing, does it work fine?
Below are the wheel specs I'm looking at.

17" x 9" 6x139.70 -12 (offset) 4.53 (backspacing) 106.25 (bore) 1.9" lip

Hi Joe, love your wheels (I might pay you the compliment of buying the same). I just purchased a 2013 4runner and wanted to know if you considered putting the 33in tires on without the kit (just stay stock). Did you go with the SST kit to void rubbing or afraid to lose some of the turning radius.....or is the 33in tire simply too big without a SST kit? Thanks in advance Joe. Patrick

So far no rubbing front or back at full lock but I haven't flexed it yet. Was able to get over 4 degrees of caster on both sides.

I'm in a very similar situation. Looking at changing my wheels but keeping my K02's stock size(265/70R17) as well, with the wheel I'm interested in having the same measurements and offset as yours. The only difference being I'm still stock ride height.

I've read that the 9" wide rim may be too wide for the stock tire size and may also cause fit issues.

Did you get any help with yours??

275 is the smallest I would run on that 9'' rim........I have those same specs on my wheels (Mamba M-14) and a 265 would be pinched.

I went from the TRD Pro black wheels to Method Racing Wheels MR312 in a bronze color. Seems like everyone here has has the black TRD wheels, you would think they are the stock wheel. I think they are on 4 of every 5 new 4Runners I see lately.

My set up is 2.5 inch lift in the front and 1.5 in the rear using Bilsteins. I just recently bought SPC UCAs but have yet to install them. Everything aligned to factor spec with my set up and stock UCAs so far.

Wheels are Method Race Wheels: MR 312. 8.5 inchs with 0 offset
Tires are Nitto Terra Grappler G2 AT measuring 285/70R17

I did do a liner tuck and slight trimming of the front bumper (1/2 inch from front underside). Front mudflaps removed. Absolutely no rubbing whatsoever now.
