6th gen 2017 4R, will it exist?

I love all the different speculation, always interesting. Was told by my guy at Toyota that the 2017 4runners were going to have the more fuel efficient, less horsepower V6 similar to the 2016 Tacomas for meeting the overall company fuel efficiency standards. This could mean a limited number of V8's could be made but I doubt it. But no major change that would make them a 6th Gen. Just to add to the fodder[emoji322]

All I know is if it doesn't come with TRD wheels, a fake hood scoop, and an optional, and highly expensive, Cold Air Intake upgrade kit, we're all F#$ked.

Rumor was the 2014 redesign was done with future pedestrian safety regulations in mind.

But then most rumors around here are never substantiated.

I am with a Toyota dealer and can clearly see in my 2017 tentative model launch calendar that it is not going to have any changes. 2016 build out is on 11/30/16. First date of production on the 2017 is the very next day, 12/01/2016. They will start arriving in Long Beach on 12/13/16 and New York and Houston on 12/29. Toyota has ZERO plans to offer a V8 model ever again.

Yeah, I heard they were going to slightly redesign the car each of the final years, little by little, so that it appears that the fishmouth grill is slowly eating the whole car. Almost there!

"Twenty-five out of thirty Lexus and Toyota models will include Lexus Safety System +™ or Toyota Safety Sense™ as standard equipment. Model-specific target dates for offering these advanced, active safety packages as standard equipment will be announced at a later date. Models that will not offer the systems standard by the end of 2017 include Lexus GX, Toyota Mirai, 4Runner, and 86 (jointly developed with Subaru), and Scion iA (developed by Mazda). Mirai and Scion iA currently provide pre-collision including AEB as standard equipment."

So, no standard safety package for the 2018 4Runner?

As much as the 4runner costs, it surprises me that Toyota would not offer those luxuries. I wonder if they are waiting for the new model?

They are selling like hotcakes, no incentive to offer anything significant until a new model comes out. They can suck every ounce of profit out of the current design, then make a bigger splash with all the "new" stuff later.

Toyota is in business to make money. Period.
Not a charity, not to make cool or desirable cars and trucks YOU want, and not to satisfy the off-road desires of forum posters.

They redesign the Camry and Corolla to stay competitive with the Accord and Civic and make money. They took so long to redesign the Tacoma because they OWNED that market until the Colorado and Canyon showed up and threatened market share/profits.

The Wrangler's redesign is right around the corner so THAT will be the time for a redesign of the the 4Runner; they have no need to do so before then.

I can envision a time in the future when you will need to build a truly off road vehicle as our options are dwindling.

I've heard nothing about that. The 2017 4Runner TRD Pro was recently introduced Chicago auto show, in Cement. Why would Toyota go to all that trouble and then cancel that particular model.....the pro's been a cash cow for them.....care to share your source?:toilet3:

Dude. Read the press release from TOYOTA issued today. They go through all the models and changes and, surprise, the TRD PRO is still going to be a model. The worst sources are anyone from a dealership.

Can the mod close this thread since we now know officially the 2017 will exist and it will be a 5th Gen platform and the exact models. No need for the continued speculation of this thread anymore...
