6th gen 2017 4R, will it exist?

2017 4Runner is a carryover , with the possibility of std black (202) replacing metallic (218) black. The 6th gen will be a 2018 model released in 2017.
 
Toyota just needs to put the Lexus GS460 V8 and call it a day. All the R&D is done with the engine. They probably need to try to get more fuel economy out of it. For Toyota it should be very simple to just put this engine in the new 4runner. Gas prices are at low also! :)

If they put the 3.5 V6 in the next 4runner. I am almost certainly keeping my 4runner for another 8 years.. There is not really a point to 'upgrade' unless you want a shiny new vehicle. Will the off road capability be better? I highly doubt since Toyota of NA focuses on interior and infotainment systems more than actual mechanical improvements to the vehicle..

If they put mechanical front and rear lockers like they do in Toyota Australia, than I might be tempted to purchase a new 4runner.

Toyota USA really disappoints me.

I don't think it looks that bad when you see it in videos (especially the off road parts).

It might be sleeker than the current butch 5th gen 4runner, but the 4th gen 4runner was more sleek and less butch. You might call it handsome, but off the showroom floor it is pretty understated. One could argue that the sheet metal creases on the 3rd gen soften the look. It is only when people make modifications, (larger tires, black out components, racks, etc.) that the certain 4th and 3rd gens get that more macho look. Stock 3rd and 4th gens are fairly invisible on the road (which isn't a bad thing necessarily).

The Fortuner is based on a Hilux so this thing is probably as solid and dependable as you can get.

Once Australians do their basic mods to 4Fortuners (ARB bumper, larger wheels, snorkel, rack) they'll be plenty tough looking, a thread will pop up on this forum about them, and many people will be vocal in saying how much they wished Toyota would sell them in the US.
 
We'll have to wait and see. I do think that Toyota USA understands that the truck and BOF market over here prefers a different look that what we see worldwide. Here everything is more boxy and chiseled looking. Look at the Tundra and new Tacoma. Outside of here everything seems a little more sleek and streamlined. They could have easily just gave us the Hilux body as the 3rd gen Taco but they know everyone here wants something mean and aggressive looking. I doubt they'll simply give us the Fortunner and call it the next 4Runner.

This was confirmed today by the release of the 2017 4Runner TRD Pro (and Tacoma and Tundra) in Cement at the Chicago Auto Show.

This is good news and likely the last year of the 5th Gen in this configuration (body style, engine and tranny) ladies and gentleman, enjoy!

I saw this as well! The baby blue is a unique color! Are we sure it's a 2017 model release and not just a special color run for 2016? I thought the same thing when I initially saw the photos... I just bought a new '16 so this is good news for me!

yes it's a 2017 4runner. that's the TRD Pro exclusive color for 2017 for the Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra. They were all there in cement color.
