7440 Rear Blinker Socket Wiring Question

I'm looking at making some changes to the rear blinker on my 2017 TRD Off-road Premium. I'm already using the Diode Dynamics Tail and Turn module and really like it. I'm looking at re-using my rear turn lamp with the reverse lights or optional rear lighting.

I have found a 7443 yellow/white switchback LED from JDM Aster. I've never used a switchback LED, but my assumption is that the bulb will have 3 contacts ... + for yellow (turn), + for white (park) and then the ground.

Would it be possible to move the contact in the 7440 tail socket to use either the white or yellow LEDs?

Would it be possible to add a wire/contact to the 7440 tail light socket? I could then use the new wire/contact to activate that given LED circuit.

You're correct about the switchback wiring. Just like a standard incandescent dual-filament bulb they share the same ground and for a switchback LED the "dim filament" + is for the white LEDs and the "bright filament" + for yellow. You can plug in a 7443 bulb into a 7440 socket (and vice-versa) but it will only power the bright circuit, so on a switchback only the yellow LEDs will light up.

Going by the pic in the link I posted, it may be possible to modify the existing socket but it's pretty tight in there, it'll be easier replacing it with a 7443 socket. I've been using Flosser 7443 (part #2644) sockets for my conversion projects, they're the closest in design to Toyota sockets and require only slight mods to fit them. Keep in mind you're going to lose a little brightness compared to a all-white or all-yellow 7440/7443 LED bulb since there will be less LED emitters for each color in a switchback design.
