8 Speakers vs. 15 Speakers

Just bought a 2015 SR5. This model comes with the 8 speaker setup. The limited model comes with a 15 speaker JBL setup.

I got the model with the premium Entune system.

Is the wiring in place for the additional speakers? Could in upgrade on my own?

Most of the extra speakers are really just co-axial versions of your existing speakers. I'm quite sure there isn't anything pre-wired for the amp, but many have added an amp and sub in those locations later running new wire.

If you count all of the 2-ways as "2" speakers and the 3-ways as "3" speakers, plus the sub....then you add up to "15" speakers in a total of 9 locations. In your SR5, you have "8" 1-way speakers in a total of 8 locations.

Haha sweet. By Toyota's logic I'm gonna start telling people I upgraded to a 13 speaker system. 6 co-axials and a sub!

FWIW, in addition to our 2014 Trail Edition, our 2nd car is a new 2015 Highlander Limited Platinum with the full JBL treatment. I'm NOT saying that the 4Runner Limited JBL isn't good, 'cuz I just don't know, but I AM gonna say that the 8-speaker system in our 4Runner sounds MUCH better than the JBL system in the Highlander. JBL didn't do the Highlander any favors. Just sayin'.....

It is amazing and really ups the quality of what is already an extremely good factory 8 speaker system. Easy and cheap. But if you want super high concert quality sound or to blow out your neighbors windows, this won't be enough for you. I find my sound now very comparable to an amped Polk system in my previous Silverado.
