91 octane personal test results

On my recent trip to Mammoth Lakes California. I experimented with 91 octane gas. The difference is significant . My previous trips going up the mountain I achieved 15.8 to 16.2 mpg , Using the 91 octane the MPG was 17.8 uphill. Going downhill was even better went from 17.4 to 20.5 MPG. The load was same cruise control set at 65. :welcome:

Is your timing significantly advanced? Higher octane by itself will not lead to more power or better mileage.

nothing was change other then the gas. I was reading this thread and decided it was worth a try.

That does not surprise me, considering the levels of ethanol they are putting in fuel these days. The 87 octane of years ago (before ethanol) was much better, energy wise, then the stuff today at the pumps.
Maybe we'll give that a try on our 1990 4runner.
