I just picked up a 96 Limited for my son who just started driving, figured it be a safe 1st vehicle, lots of miles on it , runs great and after a few steering and suspension fixes seems to be a nice vehicle.
when we got it I noticed the horn didn't work , today I checked fuse block and found someone pulled the 15 amp mini fuse, I replaced it and now the horns continues to go off along with the headlights flashing when the doors are locked. The headlights and taillights did this before the fuse was replaced, and I figure this has to do with the security system, but the problem is there is no fob or key device to activate or de-activate the alarm system.
I would like to be able to arm and disarm the system, as it is annoying while in drive or a quick trip to store and having the alarm go off all the time.
There is a label in the windows regarding the radio will not work if removed from vehicle ( the factory radio is installed) I mention this as it may give some clue as to which factory alarm system it has. there is also what appear to be some kind of possible magnetic switch located in the center console just behind the parking brake. it has a red flashing light as it appears to be armed.
I am not against replacing that what appears to be a switch with a rocker switch to arm and disarm the vehicle.
Is there any wiring diagram available for this alarm system?
has anyone else be placed in this situation and if so how did you work around it,
I could also I suppose find the wire going to the arm that ties into the alarm system and place a switch inline with it to deactivate the horn chirping, if anyone knows where that may possibly tie in that would help.
Thanks
btw the 96 has 260,000 on it and seems to run well.
