98 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x2 - Alarm Questions

Greetings brothers and sisters.
I'm new here and hope I'm posting in the right section and to the right people.

I just purchased this 98 4Runner and have read several posts here about the alarm system that's supposed to be in it from factory.. The VIP RS3000??

I read it's supposed to be under the driver seat and I don't have anything under mine. Guessing someone removed it or relocated it? I do see a plug that is attached to the bottom of the driver seat though and has 2 pins in it.. Is that for the alarm or something else?

I gues if someone could help me out here with descriptions of what to look for and or pictures.. That would be awesome.

I also have another question that might not have anything to do with the alarm. Under the passenger side rear seat; there's a lot of space and looks like something was supposed to be there. What might that be?

Hello Mark and welcom to the board.

My 98 came with a funky alarm system so I can't help you there. But I do know that under the passenger side back seat is where my jack and such are kept.

Yep, jack and little tool pouch. Mine's still there. As far as the alarm goes: Are you wondering if you have one? Does the horn honk when you lock it with remote? No remote?

I've heard of them being up under the pass. side behind glove box. I take it you have the flashing led panel insert?

Mine works so I have no need to locate it...yet.

Just guessing, from here, that the connector you speak of is the seat belt relay. Or maybe heated seats. Again mine work so haven't investigated that either.

Oops forgot; the alarm was optional.

I don't have a key fob and wanted to try locating the alarm (if it has one) so I can decide if I needed to buy a fob or a whole new alarm.

I see a red led light (not illuminated) in the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I'll shoot some pics of everything and try to post them here. The seats aren't heated.. so maybe the plug is a seat-belt thing.

Maybe the red alarm light that does nothing is.. I have no idea. lol.

All I have is the red led light which is off. No writing or anything else.. not the rectangular box around it either.

okay.. something told me to look up under the dash for any signs of an alarm system.. and I saw the shock sensor.. following the wire lead me to the alarm main module. It has a number on it but no name.. 00014-S0200. It's not plugged in. What should I do from here??

I tried googling the number but stuff about other toyotas come up.

I'm pretty sure you don't have a factory setup. Plugging it in without any "control" doesn't do anything for you. IMO. Here is another hint that it's a factory item. Good luck with the research.

Isn't the Securikey another type of remote for the RS3000? Your 4Runner must've come from a Southern state, they were only installed there.

Did you just have that one fob or a spare and if so.. what did the spare look like?
