99 Limited alarm questions

Alright so I've looked every where for the answer for my question. I have a 99 Limited 4runner, with the original key fob. I can lock and unlock the doors with it and roll down the rear window. But out of curiosity I decided to see if the alarm would go off if I locked it with the fob, and unlocked it with the key. Nothing, I didn't go off. So I tried locking it with the fob while I was in it. And just pulled the door lock up and opened the door, nothing again. So my question is when will the alarm go off? Or does it at all? The reason I ask is because I had a 97 SR5 and locked it with the fob and forgot I had did so. I unlocked it with the key and the alarm went off and I couldn't start it. So any help would be great or any info. And btw the panic function works.

mine didnt go off when inside locked sitting on the seat.

I recall it goes off with lifting the rear lock after it being locked for some time (last time i slept in it).

Are you 100% sure that it has an alarm? I wouldn't think that just because it has keyless entry means it has an alarm system. Do you have the red blinking security light on the dash?

Yes I have the security light, and like I said the panic button works. It's loud as hell but it won't trigger when I thought it should. Actually at all unless I hit panic button.

I know toyota times other things with the door locks. Like if you unlock it and dont touch the door, it will relock on its own.

I was awake, the girlfriend didnt like it.

[EDIT]A panic alarm is no indication of an intrusion alarm. You can have the first without the second.

Do you have the black 4 button remote (panic on back) FCC # HYQ1512Y?
If so, you do NOT have the intrusion alarm, although you do have the panic alarm.

I don't think this is correct. I have that remote, and my '99 Limited most definitely has the intrusion alarm.

Correct, the limited had the alarm and immobilizer.

See that's what I thought, it must be a timed thing. Especially it being the limited model you would think it would have the alarm and immobilizer. I guess I just need to find out when it is active. Or if it's broke.

Maybe just lay in the back for 5 mins, and lift the rear lock and see if it goes off.

Hmm. I retract that then. I misinterpreted the TSB. My '99 SR5 has that same remote--with a working panic alarm button--but no intrusion alarm or immobilizer. I'll edit myself. My sincere apologies.

I found out the other night that the alarm feature on my 2000 Limited works, and works very well. I had all the windows down, and the keys in my pocket. It automatically locked itself after a certain amount of time like it does, and not thinking about it I reached in through the window and unlocked it by hand. Alarm went off and scared the bejesus out of me.

So it's probably a timed thing. I'll have to put this to test. I thought we had to have a alarm system on the limited model at least. Toyota and there shenanigans.

I can vouch for this too, I've also set it off this way.
