Hey guys. I was wondering if I could get some insight on an A/C issue I am having. Its not a 4runner but a 99 Tacoma 3.4L V6 but I was hoping I could get some help.
I just bought this truck yesterday(Wednesday). Drove it over an hour home and all was good. A/C cooled find although I noticed the light on the A/C button did not light up, I figured the bulb was burned out so I thought nothing of it. Wasn't home long and left to run a few errands. Shortly after leaving the A/C went from blowing cold to HOT.
After I got back home I started troubleshooting the issue. The A/C Clutch was not engaging. After looking around I found where someone has run a jumper wire from a sensor on the throttle body to the compressor clutch. The wire they spliced into is a switched 12V source. I knew I was in for it now. I already got rid of the jumper because I will be fixing this the correct way.
What I have checked so far. I got a wiring diagram and then got my multimeter out. 40A heater fuse and 10A A/C Fuse check good. With blower switch on and fan blowing I have 12V at the heater fuse as well as 12V at the 10A A/C Fuse. I then went inside and found the Pressure Switch connection which was next in line after the 10A fuse, I have 12V to the switch via the Blue/White wire and I have 12V coming back from the switch via the Red/Green wire. I then checked the Red/Green wire for 12V right at the connection where it goes to the A/C amp thing and indeed have 12V.
I found some articles through searching and found if you have voltage at the Red/Green wire at A/C amplifier to check the Black/White ground wire from the blower switch. I can check the Black/White wire on the fan speed plug and I have continuity to ground. I can also check it right at the plug that goes the A/C Amp and I have continuity to ground.
Now I am officially stumped.
I thought I would have put my finger on it by now.
