A/C Performance [SR5]

I've had my 4R about 1yr now and I live in Southern California in a desert area that gets to be 115 degrees sometimes. My experience with the A/C system is mixed. One one hand it blows cold and i don't notice a hit in performance but on the other hand it doesn't seem to keep my rear passengers very cool. I had it on full blast freezing up front but my rear passengers just weren't getting the cool like i was despite having their vents open. One way i solved it was to close one of the vents up front. Overall i would say its good for the front passengers and you gotta mess with stuff to keep the rear ones happy.

Very interesting....that could be the case! Thanks i think i'll take a look tomorrow at the console area. Hope its not to difficult to remove but worth a look!

With temps above 98 degrees the past few days here in NYC, I had to resurrect this thread. I noticed the a/c in my TE wasnt as good as I had expected. I do recall from my 3rd gen & 4th gen T4R's the a/c never meet my expectations. When compared to my wifes a/c in her Sienna, the 4R is slightly cool at best. I think that the Sienna has a larger interior volume the my truck, so what gives? Is anyone else not happy with their a/c?

Interesting. My old jetta would blow icicles. I couldn't have it on full blast for too long or I'd freeze, even in the Texas heat.
The first thing I noticed was the AC wasn't as good in the 4Runner, but I just figured it was because it was a much larger vehicle with a ton more interior space. I guess I'll really get to test it soon. It's supposed to be 101 on Monday.
The thing I did notice the other day is there are fan positions in between the normal positions. So it's more incremental from front vents only to foot vents only. It's like I have an extra 4 settings over my jetta. I'm sure most new cars are that way, but it's still cool. No pun intended.

In my opinion A/C is a bit underpowered in T4R comparing to Fords. In Windstar, Explorer and Escape I drove in the past I hardly swithced fan from the lowest possible speed. In T4R I have to keep it at 3rd or 4th speed to have myself cooled when it's really hot outside. On the positive side T4R fan seems to be quiter and I couldn't feel any change in engine performance when A/C is on. Before I could tell right away if A/C is on driving Windstar or Escape.
